Prayers and vibes needed
My sister- in law Shirley, fell Monday. She has 3 broken bones in her femur. A biopsy was done Tuesday. They are going to go into her leg today. The doctors highly suspect bone cancer. It does look good. My brother, Jimmy, is disable with COPD and severe authorities. My nephew was killed in a wreck about five years ago. Karen, their daughter, husband died a couple of weeks ago of a massive stroke. Karen lives in Maryland with her 2 sons. There is really no one in Richmond to help them. Jimmy is my only sibling. I will do what I can. It's such a bad situation. It hurts.

Thank you. Shirley does have cancer but no bone cancer. The site is somewhere else. They are going to put a rod in her leg, part of her bone has desindigrated. They will discuss options in a few days. It's heartbreaking.CathyCA wrote:Oh my goodness, Nancy. I am sending out hugs and prayers for Shirley and Jimmy and for YOU!

Re: Prayers and vibes needed
How much is one little family supposed to take? What can we do to give them a lift? Help us think of something, VDB. This is heartbreaking --- doubly so at Christmas. Will you be going to Richmond? I hope they can all get together and lend each other moral support. How old are Karen's two sons?
Is it my imagination, or do more horrific things happen at Christmas? Is somebody trying to tell us something?
Please let them know they (and you) are on our worry list and that we care deeply about you. Please keep us in the loop!
Love, Ima

Re: Prayers and vibes needed
Thank you. I'm going to Richmond in a few days. I will be taking meals for my brother. I have some in the freezer but will cook more. My plan is to go and stay awhile after Shirley gets home. She is to have surgery Tuesday. It depends on what the biopsy shows, either they will put the rod in or may amputate. Shirley will go to rehab after discharge. That is if all goes well. There are a lot of "ifs". Karen is 49. Brice is 18, a freshman in college, Evan is 16. She has been coming every day from Maryland and driving back home. When school is out, it will be a little easier on her. My cousin, who lives in Tx. Will be here in a few days. We already have plans for me to ride back to Tx., I will fly back home. I'm hoping the timing works out. I don't think Shirley will be home before I get back. I will be explains CTN to all of them about the prayers and vibes, ect. My nephews (X) is and will help as much as she can. Of course, Sharon works. I think all of you for your prayers and vibes it means a lot.Ima Facultiwyfe wrote:How much is one little family supposed to take? What can we do to give them a lift? Help us think of something, VDB. Shirley had the amputation to the hip yesterday. The chances of the cancer not coming back is 10 to 20 present. At least she has a shot. So sad. P

Re: Prayers and vibes needed
So to recap, shirley will be in rehab for a few weeks? Meanwhile, her husband--your brother, is on his own at home in Richmond? How able is he to take care of her when she gets home? Would it be easier on their daughter to have them in Maryland where she wouldn't have to make that drive over and over? (Just thinking out loud.) What a mess.
Sounds as though a very merry Christmas is a pipe dream. On a brighter side, that ten percent chance of recurrence sounds pretty good to me. That's probably about the same chance we all have of getting it in the first place. We're keeping thoughts of all of you up front and center until all settles down. Surely they've gotten through the worst of their luck by now and can start settling into recovery mode.
They are lucky to have a good old war horse like you on their side, VDB. You rock! Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Is your last patient all better now and recovered from his bypass? I'm assuming no news is good news there.
Love, Ima

Re: Prayers and vibes needed
It's worse than ever. I spoke to Uncle Jimmy this morning and learned that he was admitted with pneumonia a week ago and fell twice at home after they discharged him. His oxygen saturation is 90% at best and tanks to 60% with minimal exertion. He needs to be in the hospital or a nursing home. Aunt Shirley's chances of surviving are not great given the invasive nature of the cancer in her leg. Scary times. So sad. At least Dad, Mr. Bypass, is doing great SighIma Facultiwyfe wrote:So to recap, shirley will be in rehab for a few weeks? Meanwhile, her husband--your brother, is on his own at home in Richmond? Re: Prayers and vibes needed
Ima, I don't know if it's possible for Jimmy and Shirley to live with Karen but it's a good thought. Meanwhile the house has to be handicap evaluated. There will be a lot to kdo to make it so. The biggest chalange will be the bathroom. It is too small for a wheelchair. I think it will be very hard for Jimmy to be the caretaker . They will have to have help. There are so many problems to solve.
I very much appreciate all of you for your prayers and support.
