That's fuckin' awesome. I love it. Love it.Bostondevil wrote:I wouldn't call them fans either.wilson wrote:It's the chick from suburban Atlanta in the pink red sox hat who doesn't know who Ted Williams or Carl Yastrzemski or even Roger Clemens is whose sox fanhood I loathe. In fact, I flatly reject the very notion of that kind of person's red sox fanhood.
But I still refuse to capitalize "red sox." ;)
*Edit: This is my Battle of Hastings post.![]()
If you ever do come to Boston, I'll show you my replica Ted Williams jersey. Yes, I have one. Not some cheap polyester replica, it's made from vintage baseball uniform material circa 1939. I kid you not. They were made of wool flannel back then. I can't imagine playing a game in August in one of those. I find it too itchy to actually wear it much so it's in great condition. I got it for my birthday about 20 years ago.
That was post #1066 for me. The Battle of Hastings occurred in the year 1066. That's all.Bostondevil wrote:Hmmm, I don't quite get the Battle of Hastings bit unless . . .

It's not October 25. That's St. Crispin's Day.

That would be insiders' jargon (love that word) for medieval & Renaissance history.wilson wrote: Not bad, eh? And I don't even do Med/Ren.

Re: LTE 2.0
Med/Ren is a hobby of mine. Although at Harvard it really is the MRS degree - Medieval and Rennaissance Studies. You can major in it. Did they have one of those at Duke? Or was it just called history?wilson wrote:That would be insiders' jargon (love that word) for medieval & Renaissance history.wilson wrote: Not bad, eh? And I don't even do Med/Ren.
I also know a lot more about military history than I think I should. I'm very much a pacifist. I abhor war. But I know an awful lot about primarily European military campaigns throughout the ages (for a non-historian).

Re: LTE 2.0
I think they still have Med/Ren at Duke. I'm almost positive they had it when I was there. One of the best history courses I took at Duke was an early British Isles history course with a Med/Ren specialist who is still at Duke as a special assistant to the VP or something like that.Bostondevil wrote:Med/Ren is a hobby of mine. Well, not quite Med/Ren but I'll leave you with a quote.

G'night to you too, Sue, since I suspect(/hope) you'll be here soon.
