New painting --- Abstract

Post by CameronBornAndBred » August 5th, 2009, 10:52 pm

These are way fun, it's been too long since I have worked on one. I do these to escape the constraints of representing real world images, it's like a vacation for my brain. I also do a lot of experimentation in them, and what I learn usually shows up as techniques in subsequent paintings.

That is really amazing. We have bought several oil paintings (originals) from our HS physics teacher who has dozens (hundreds?) of paintings and we attend his showings every year. Some are bizarre, when you read his descriptions and compare them with his paintings. Many are simply stunning and I would buy dozens of his works if I did not have to make mortgage and tuition payments.

Looks like steam rising from a cup of coffee.

Makes me want to listen to the Grateful Dead and just look at it (with perhaps an enhancement or two ;) ).

I was gonna say it looked like the moment of conception to me. But, then, I'm a weird biomedical engineer, so I see biological shit in all that kind of stuff.

I have a couple that people suggested should be hanging on the walls of fertility clinics.

The experimentation is the important factor.

I see blue basketballs in flight, heading in a downward path toward the goal. This would be from the point of view of being on the floor, looking up a through the underneath of the basket.

That's what nephew Alex is planning on for his major. Any tips for him?

I'm not much for abstract art - but can definitely see the basketballs that Turk describes but would never have gotten that on my own. (All my taste may be in my mouth.) I do like the colors and can see how you would use what you learn here on future paintings.

If he's going to Duke, then I'd say to prepare for late nights in Teer Library.

Nope - Penn State, main campus. He thought about Duke but never completed the application. I suggested he apply to Cornell, his Uncle Bob's alma mater since Uncle Bob has more funds to help out with college costs. ;)

Heh...I read ya. My only exposure whatsoever to engineering curriculum was through friends at Duke who majored in it. I suspect, though, that the story will be largely the same in College Station.

Good answer.

Wait a minute! Ozzie, thinking about and describing dark beer? WTH?
