Duke vs NCCU, Sept 12, 6 pm
Time to start discussing the home opener against cross town NCCU Eagles. My expectation is Duke will overpower NCCU so we are not going to see anything new as far as schemes go. The offense and defense will be straight forward. One play I hope we work on is Sirk pitching the ball. There are some kinks to work out there.

I'd like to see Sirk connect w/Barnes, Rahming, Max (any or all plus others ) on a couple long balls. I'd like to see Boehme, Boden and Ajeigbe and others on the 3 (or 4) deep chart (on O and D) play a lot of snaps in the 2nd half. A lot.

I would really like to see a shutout, so close to one against Tulane.

One part of the program to look forward to will be the NCCU band. If rain doesn't interfere, the halftime shows performed by both bands will be very entertaining.
If you want to donate to the annual Duke marching band fundraiser, there will be a jar for those donations at Tent #1. The money will handed over along with the short concert prior to the Pitt game on November 14, Senior Day. This year's fundraiser will be given in memory of Malachi, Shaquille Powell's younger brother who died just over 2 months ago after a valiant fight against cancer. Malachi loved the band!

Re: Duke vs NCCU, Sept 12, 6 pm
Listened to the David Cutcliffe radio show this evening. A few takeaways:
1. Sirk was good against Tulane; he can be better. A couple of his runs had the potential to go for 15-20 more yards. The best is yet to come.
2. Johnell Barnes was good after a shaky start. The challenge now is to be consistent. Coach stated he emphasized to Barnes that Crowder is gone so it is his responsibility to be the man doing the right thing every play of every game.
3. Praised the young linebackers, described Zavier Carmichaels ability to make plays as "scary." Stated Tinashe Bere was the most physical player on the defense, commenting that when an opponent is hit by Bere they know it.
4. Coach Cutcliffe told the crowd to arrive early and don't waste time complaining about parking.
There were a lot more comments, but I didn't take notes and my memory is limited (and volatile). Is it Saturday yet?

Re: Duke vs NCCU, Sept 12, 6 pm
After NCCU layed the 72-0 smack down on St. Augustine's, Duke's defense took notice. Brooke Pryor at the Herald-Sun wrote about it.
Speaking of Brooke Pryor, perhaps the best part of her whole write up is in her bio...
http://www.heraldsun.com/sports/nccu-s- ... dc5a5.html“Seventy two points is a lot,” redshirt junior safety DeVon Edwards said. “That’s a lot for anybody. I don’t care who you play. So we just take that to challenge ourselves to get out there and play better on defense than last week.”

Brooke earned her BA in Journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she promises all of her classes were real.

Re: Duke vs NCCU, Sept 12, 6 pm
Very excited to see how to Wallace Wade looks, especially the new video board!
There were so many positive signs to take away from the Tulane game. I thought our receiving group stepped up in a huge way after having an inconsistent fall camp. The defense was phenomenal all night long as Jeremy Cash looks to have that group ready to go.
I am interested to see how we will perform this Saturday. Although NCCU is an FCS school, this is a completely different program than it was the last time we met. The Eagles finished with a 9-3 record last year, and their 72-0 win last weekend was very impressive. I'm definitely not expecting this to be a close game, but it will be interesting to see how long they can stay in the game.
I expect our offensive line to be much better on Saturday, and I'm hoping to see Shaq Powell have a good performance after getting off to a slow start last week.

Re: Duke vs NCCU, Sept 12, 6 pm
Duke will be wearing White helmets, Blue jerseys, and Blue pants this Saturday against NCCU. We sported this combination last year on October 18th against Virginia, in a close 20-13 win.
Our white helmets will be on display for the first time this season and they will feature a new, chrome blue face mask that looks very cool. The blue should pop in Wallace-Wade on Saturday. Here is a picture of the combination...

If they are planning on using the black unis AT ALL this year, this game would have been my choice.

Here is my game preview:
http://bluedevilnation.net/2015/09/game ... e-vs-nccu/
The format is different than usual as there just isn't that much to discuss about NCCU.
