poll skew

Post by DukePA » August 4th, 2009, 3:53 pm

Let's join up with DBR and skew this poll. They have a front page story today calling out ESPN and Forde for dismissing Duke football. I know we have a way to go, but they completely ignore the improvements that have been made and the fact that Duke now has a fantastic coach. So, vote early, vote often and only vote for Duke. Right now we have 2.5% of the vote :(

I'm going to paste what I wrote over there, because it's long and I'm lazy. This is actually a poll skew I can't support, sort of like Spurrier's vote for us in the top 25.

As far as Forde's "dissing of Duke football", I think Forde has every right to say what he does. I bet you wouldn't get Coach Cutcliffe to offer too much criticism either. I'm one of the biggest supporters of the football program you will find on this board, but we haven't earned the respect yet, so we can't expect the media to give it. I DO believe Cutcliffe and the athletic department are working very hard to change that, but they are doing it by working in the right places. They are working to fix our problems on the field. When we make the team an outfit that garners the respect that I believe it will one day deserve, then the bashing will stop. That will be a great day, but we aren't there yet. Even if we go bowling this year, we won't be there. Not until it becomes a regular occurance, and Duke is regularly within at least the middle pack of the ACC will we have much of a leg to stand on when answering critics of the program. Happily, at that point, I don't doubt that Forde and other writers will mind one bit including us in complementary articles.

Yeah, I think any DBR poll-skewing in off-season is tough... Looks like we're having some impact in keeping the Devils away from the bottom, I'd say...

Too true!! I find it so difficult to be reasonable when it comes to Duke  No objectivity from this corner 'cause those Duke Blue shades seem to be surgically implanted on my face  !

Hate to say it, but Duke doesn't belong anywhere near the discussion of the 40 best football programs.
For the past decade, we'd be doing well to crack the top hundred.*

*I genuinely, firmly believe, however, that Duke football is on its way to a far greater degree of respectability.

IIRC, we were consistently in the worst 10 nationally, so that would put us about 110-120 (thinking there are about 120 1A programs)

In response to CB&B's well-reasoned response over in the stadium and some here, I write:

"Too true!! I find it so difficult to be reasonable when it comes to Duke. No objectivity from this corner 'cause those Duke Blue shades seem to be surgically implanted on my face :o "!

Now the whole thread is where it's supposed to be. Unfortunately the shadow I left in "Our House" was deleted. X(
