3* DE Chidi Okonya (6'7") will announce his college destination on Friday evening. Duke is in the mix, but Tennessee is viewed as the favorite.

As expected, Okonya has committed to Tennessee.
In other news, Duke has offered 2017 4* QB Dylan McCafferty who is the younger brother of wide receiver Max. It's a little soon to start a 2017 Recruiting thread. Dylan is 6'5" 200 pounds with two years of high school left to go.

Clark Yarbrough has verballed to Stanford. Michal Menet and Parker Braun are the offensive linemen still in play. We need to finish the deal with one of them (or both).

Re: 2016 Recruiting
No news, but a couple of updates:
1. Duke football camps commenced this weekend so the potential for 2016 commits and 2017 offers increases dramatically.
2. 4* Safety Eric Burrell is visiting this weekend. He would be a great addition.
3. QB Chazz Surratt is participating in the Elite 11 semi-finals.
I've re-tweeted names of folks who are camping, etc...so follow me on Twitter if you are not already: @jbobgreen

Re: 2016 Recruiting
From what I read his top 3 were: Duke, Mississippi State and some school in Tuscaloosa. I don't think they were willing to make him a priority the way we were, though.CameronBornAndBred wrote:#5 kicker in the country, I'll take that.Bob Green wrote:Kicker A.J. Reed has verbally committed to Duke!

Re: 2016 Recruiting
Welcome to Duke, Mark Gilbert 3* cornerback from Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville, NC. He has good size, I've seen him listed at 6'1" and 6'2". Offer list includes: N.C. State, Carolina, BC, Pitt, Louisville, Wake from the ACC plus Penn St, Michigan, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and West Virginia.
Per The Devils Den, Gilbert is the #1 CB in North Carolina. It is noteworthy we beat out State and Carolina for this top rated in state recruit.

Re: 2016 Recruiting
Class of 2016 has 13 verbals now. I'm thinking overall class size will be 18 - 20. Eighteen is the better working number as the class will only go to 20 if a couple of big name guys decide to declare for Duke in Jan/Feb of 2016 as National Signing Day approaches. So what are the priorities for the remaining five slots?
1. Defensive linemen (2) is obvious. Whether or not we sign two is not obvious. This is a big, big need. Depth on the DL is critical.
2. Linebacker (1) and another defensive back (1) perhaps a large safety who could play LB as well. There is some flexibility available here.
3. Wide receiver (1) or another offensive lineman (1).
That adds up to six with only five slots to work with, but this is my best guess.

Re: 2016 Recruiting
Quansah!!!!!!! Kinda sounds like something a Samurai yells before head chopping......
Here's to hoping Koby Quansah has several years of heading hunting at Duke!
Check the videos out if you get a chance. This guy had enough moves and raw athletic ability to return punts (and score) for his team. Gotta love that. If this guy gets an interception, he's going to be hard to bring down...looks like he's got some heft and speed to his gallop.
This guy would've rated as our top guy or 2nd best recruit in most every year....this year we've got several really good players. We have to keep winning to secure this class, but wow!!! We've come a long way.

I was slacking off yesterday. Quansah is a solid pickup which solidifies our LB position in this class.devildeac wrote:WTH? No report from Bob Green about our new verbal from a 3* OLB with 22 other D1 offers? ;)

Re: 2016 Recruiting
Rivals has him as a 4 star. (And Duke at 14th.) Nice.
http://collegespun.com/acc/duke/duke-fo ... by-quansahDuke is putting together quite a class in 2016, as the Blue Devils now have 14 commitments. The class was ranked No. 18 in the country and No. 3 in the ACC by 247 Sports prior to this commitment.

Re: 2016 Recruiting
2* DE Tre Hornbuckle from Kentucky verbally committed today. Per a post from Jim Sumner on DBR, Hornbuckle is a great pass rusher who needs to get stronger to defend the run. He should have plenty of time to spend in the weight room due to the quality DEs recruited in 2015.
I read on 247Sports Duke site that the staff was really impressed by Hornbuckle during a recent camp. This could be a diamond in the rough type situation where Cutcliffe shows once again he knows more than the recruiting services. With available scholarships tight, there is no reason for the staff to reach so the fact Duke offered indicates they are impressed with the young man.
