Boone's less than stellar start & improving year so far

Post by CameronBornAndBred » October 3rd, 2014, 10:34 am

The Miami game was a smack in the face with reality. We had all seen that Boone was not playing well in the first games, but due to the competition we faced it didn't show as much. Obviously going against some real competition, the truth came to light. Coach Cutcliffe obviously saw it as well.
“We threw 29 incompletions in the game,” Cutcliffe said. “I can’t remember us ever throwing 29 incompletions in 39 years of coaching.”
It sounds like they have been focusing on him simplifying his approach in practice, and Boehme has been getting reps as well. I'm happy to hear that about Parker, because without a reliable option behind, or if the need be, in front of Boone, then this season is going to be a disappointment. We can fight through having injuries, we can't fight through costly mistakes and ineffective play on the field. I am hoping AB is able to turn things around; there is still plenty of time. :duke:

I wrote an article at BDN on August 4 originally titled "What's Keeping You Awake at Night?"

http://bluedevilnation.net/2014/08/what ... ake-night/

The title was edited to Three Concerns for Duke Football. My Number 1 concern was QB play. Boone's performance to date has increased my anxiety level. Hopefully the Bye Week is put to good use in the film room, practice facility and treatment room. The offense needs to get healthy and rejuvenated in a hurry. GT and UVa the next two weeks are no joke.

Giving credit where credit is due: Boone has not thrown an interception the past two games! For the season, Boone has thrown nine touchdowns and three interceptions.

Boone has now thrown 12 touchdowns against 3 interceptions for a 4:1 ration.

He was SOOO much better yesterday. His long passes were pretty to watch, I really only saw one or two throws that had no chance of finding a target. Perfect time of year for him to be playing this kind of football. I hate seeing the headlines that say "Sirk wins game", because it was AB that got us there all day long.

He's played 2 solid games in a row. Nothing fancy or spectacular just very good decision making and execution and ending up with the W. Loved seeing him dial Crowder's number repeatedly yesterday especially. Of course, his running was fine, too.
