Our guys deserved to win. Pitt was very intense and on point today, but our guys kept finding ways to use up time and make key plays when the plays kept Duke in the game. When it was time for the final stretch of the game, our guys did what was needed to win. It's a W... on to Syracuse. ;;)

Deserved and icing the kicker does work. Not sure why their next to last play of regulation was to the side of field. Short angled kicks are tough.

I thought it was over at the end of regulation, but I had a good feeling when it went into OT. :9f:

We were in a bar (yes the Old Ref & I were in a bar :D ) where all the TV's were on the Hawkeye game. At the end of regulation in the Duke game half the TV's in the place turned to Duke! Blue Devils are famous even in the sport bars of Iowa - that major folks! :happy-bouncyblue: :happy-bouncyblue: :happy-bouncyblue:

We gave up 48 points, which will lose a lot of FB games (and maybe a few Big Integer League MBB games 8-| ), had great difficulty stopping them on 3rd downs (or any downs for that matter 8-| ), allowed them to gain 598 yards, forced them to punt a grand total of once and they missed a game-winning FG as time expired that would usually be made 90% of the time. Yesterday, we got lucky. It's a win in November but I'd bet the staff is none-too-happy with some of the on-field execution and hopefully not too pleased with some of their own decisions, too. Once again though, after so many late losses over the last few decades, we did what we needed to when we needed to and eked one out on the proper side of the ledger.

By the end of the season, all that will matter about the Pitt game is the W.

In the old days, all we had were lost games and whatever stats the team could produce better than the winning team. Those were the days of moral victories, achieved only in random stats.

As for addressing mistakes and shortcomings, it's easier to work on mistakes after a win.

Now our guys are getting wins. That's the most important stat of all. ;;)

You watched in a bar - I watched in church. Once the rehearsal was over, I put the game on the screens and turned on the sound as I put chairs back in place.

Duke has a famous Chapel. I don't see anything out of order in your description. ;;)
