Blakeney is injured
Issac Blakeney injured his right thumb on the play where he fumbled against Miami:

He has ligament damage and needs surgery, but he intends to keep playing and have surgery after the season.

Saw this earlier. Part of me is skeptical if he can really be productive playing with a cast on his hand. Could be another tragic blow for this team.

I agree. An injured Blakeney is not good news. Fortunately, the team has options. Johnell Barnes or Terrance Alls could step up. McCaffrey could move outside with Ryan Smith taking over the slot. Frankly, I believe the staff needs to take a good long hard look at burning a redshirt for Trevon Lee or Chris Taylor. This is a win now year in my opinion.wolfpackdevil wrote:Saw this earlier. We definitely need to pay attention to the injury report this week. Our guys have real injuries, not the sort which got NC State and FL State in an uproar.

I agree 1000%. This offense could use a spark and I would love to see Trevon Lee play next weekend. The loss of Braxton has definitely hurt Anthony, and we need as many weapons as we can get. I also think Shaun Wilson needs more touches.

Re: Blakeney is injured
I'm wondering if there is any consideration of playing Wilson in the slot, which would potentially open up the offense immensely. For starters, it brings the jet sweep into play. Perhaps my memory is faulty but I can't remember solid success with the jet sweep since Donovan Varner graduated. Second, Wilson as slot receiver gives him more touches.wolfpackdevil wrote:I also think Shaun Wilson needs more touches.
He doesn't have to make a permanent switch to receiver a la Desmond Scott just line Wilson up in the slot with Powell or Snead as the back 10-12 times a game. Wilson can still take his normal rotation at running back. As the competition stiffens with ACC play, I'm not sure McCaffrey has the requisite speed to get open over the middle. He had zero catches against Miami.
It is all about more touches for Wilson who is proving to be our most dynamic player.

Source OY now reporting that there was no injury to Blakeney. That'd be even better news. Guess sometimes ya just can't trust what you read on the internet. ;)
