Pet Hospice

Post by windsor » October 8th, 2013, 5:44 pm

Dylan (demon poodle) is 15. That's pretty old for a standard poodle. Actually it is really old for a big dog. He is mostly blind. He is senile. Having been an agility dog and a athlete physically he's in pretty good shape. He still launches on and off the furniture at will. He's got lumps/bumps at least some of which are probably malignant (at his age I will not treat them, so why test them). He eats if I cook for him. He has good days, he has bad days.

The short version is that the end of his days are coming soon. I know several dog friends who have used Lap of Love. Having taken dogs on the 'last ride' to the vet I am a huge advocate of the in home option. Based upon all the stories I have heard these are wonderful compassionate folks that provide an alternative to the vets office.

Although it started in Florida, there are locations nationwide. I see a couple in NC. I know there are pet lovers on this list, so I wanted to pass along my endorsement.

Wow, that is pretty cool. I'm going to talk to one of my veterinarian friends at choir tonight and ask him if he's considered adding this service to his business offerings.

We do this for people. Why not for our animals, too?

We have a number of vets here who do it, Laps of Love is truly hospice. It is becoming more common, as many of us would rather say good bye at home rather than take the 'last ride' and are wiling to pay extra for it.
