Don't we only have two or three spots left? These kids need to get on the train before it leaves the station!

QB Nicodem Pierre has verbally committed to Duke per Adam Rowe tweet. Pierre is a talented prospect out of Miami who is rated 4-Stars by ESPN:

Re: 2014 Recruiting
He's also considered a "ESPN 300 Player"
I watched the video on 247sports and it was easier to see this there than on the video from ESPN, but one of the things that stands out is the arm strength. He's throwing the ball a long way 40-50 yards and it looks rather effortless. He also looked athletic extending plays. Looking athletic against 2a competition in Randomsville USA is one thing...you can be fooled, doing it in the Miami, Coral Reef Fl area means it's legit ability to make people miss. Add to that an arm that can chunk it a long ways and I think you have a potentially dangerous scoring threat on almost any play, even one that broke down. There's a lot to like here.
I hope this doesn't affect Johnathon Loyds commitment. He was also looking at the QB position. I hope we can keep both in the fold and get both on the field.

Re: 2014 Recruiting
That is very impressive. BUT!!! I long for us landing some big recruits that are NOT QB's. Any four star is a welcome addition, of course, but hopefully we get those stars spread around on both sides of the ball.

Re: 2014 Recruiting
According to a brand new thread on The Devils Den, once again citing Twitter as the source, DE/OLB Taariq Shabazz has committed to Duke. Someone smarter than me will have to confirm this via Twitter. The Twitterverse confuses this old man.

Re: 2014 Recruiting
The defensive line is where we have the least amount of starred talent. So, I think this is a pretty big commit for the devils. He's probably the biggest D-line commit since Vince O. Also sounds like he's got his head on right. Maybe he can be one more recruiter too. Holuba would a great addition on the D-line. Trevon Lee would be a great WR to finish things off. Would we have anymore slots left?
Anyway, saw this article on the new commit. Thought I'd pass it along.

Taariq Shabazz article from the Marietta Daily Journal:
http://mdjonline.com/view/full_story_sp ... ght_column
He runs a 4.6 40 yard dash and is a phenom in the weight room. His high school coach describes him as a "sideline to sideline type kid."

Kerrion Moore and Duke have had a mutual parting of the ways so we now have one more scholarship available in 2014.

Hmm. Football recruiting is never set in stone. He seemed like a fast guy, wonder what the story was.Bob Green wrote:Kerrion Moore and Duke have had a mutual parting of the ways so we now have one more scholarship available in 2014.

Re: 2014 Recruiting
I'm not sure, but the commitment of Nico Pierre has generated a lot of interest. I'm optimistic we see another 4-Star athlete or two commit before all is said and done. I want Trevon Lee!CameronBornAndBred wrote:Hmm. Football recruiting is never set in stone. CB Greg Stroman to Virginia Tech over Duke and Virginia. I'm surprised as Virginia was perceived to be the favorite.

Verbal commit offensive lineman/center Zach Harmon who plays for Central Catholic in Toledo, Ohio suffered a serious neck injury on Friday night. There was no mention of the injury in the Toledo Blade game recap, but it is all over Twitter:
