Carmax commercials...
Where do they find these laws? Are they real, or do they just make them up? Like how do you find out that it's illegal in Idaho to fish off a camel's back, or that it's illegal in some states to put the moves on your wife after eating garlic, or it's illegal to cross state lines with a duck on your head, or put a donkey in your bath tub? What are the other ones I'm forgetting?
I mean, I'm sure that these are public record, but HOW would you find them? Do they hire folks to just read legal codes and find the silly ones?

Nevermind, I guess they found them here.

Find some of your favorites and post them here! I like that it's illegal in Idaho to give your sweetheart a box of candy weighing less than 50 pounds. There must be some BIG women in Idaho! ;)

Forgive me, but as I have not seen what you are talking about (nor can I access youtube), would you mind describing these commercials a little bit?
Thanks,

In Toronto it is still illegal to tie up your horse outside of a tavern - I guess that was an early attempt at drunk driving legislation.

Re: Carmax commercials...
They are radio ads for Carmax, the car dealership. Basically, the guy says that there are stupid laws out there, like it being illegal in Idaho to fish off a camels back. Then they say it is NOT stupid to buy your car and Carmax. They started doing this about a year and a half ago, changing the law mentioned in the ad every few weeks or so, though they still play the old ones sprinkled in. They're pretty funny. Anyway, I was trying to figure out how they found the stupid laws. Since the website I found listed every one of the ones in the ads, I'm guessing they found them there. I was just encouraging people to leaf through that website and list on here some of their favorites.Lavabe wrote:Forgive me, but as I have not seen what you are talking about (nor can I access youtube), would you mind describing these commercials a little bit?

If I remember right, in Alabama, it was the law that you had to have windshield wipers, but it was not mandatory to actually have a windshield.

Re: Carmax commercials...
Any other Carmax lovers in the house? I've bought and sold several cars through Carmax and always been very satisfied. You always get a fair deal - not the greatest possible deal - but it's zero hassle, which is worth a lot to me. I'm a big fan.

I'm not a fan at all. Tried to sell a Lexus ES 300 there about 10 years ago and got a much better "trade" at AutoParkHonda instead. Also thought about buying a Wrangler there and got a new one instead for about 1K more-with both the hard/convertible tops included.McGrupp wrote:Any other Carmax lovers in the house? According to www.loonylaws.com, it's illegal to raise chickens in bottles in New Jersey. The site (citing an author, Robert Pelton) also states that in Kentucky, no female may appear in a bathing suit on any highway, unless "escorted" by two police officers, or unless carrying a club. Apparently the law was amended to exclude female horses, as well as females <90 lbs or >200 lbs.
It's times like these when I just don't trust what I read on the internets.

Some of the problem comes from the damned "rule" of "you can only embed 3 quotes" in your reply and I can't subvert the software but still want to submit/quote the posts to which I am replying. Maybe I'll just begin to omit quoting prior posts.  (doubly)wilson wrote:Good God, you really are the worst quoter ever. I'm still not sure I've ever seen you do it right. I'm afraid I agree with wilson, but I attribute it to his recent bout with percocet. And his earlier quoting foibles I attribute to a few high ABV beverages from Colorado. ;)wilson wrote:God, you really are the worst quoter ever. I'm still not sure I've ever seen you do it right. There are no excuses then. Guess I just need to re-take a high school English course. I still don't know what to do with quoting other posters when there is the "3 quote" rule and I want to include more. I probably can't be taught either. :oops:Lavabe wrote:I'm afraid I agree with wilson, but I attribute it to his recent bout with percocet.
