Re: PJ Hairston... Unc player arrested
The PJ saga continues!!! And the story of his Durham escapades is growing!
http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?secti ... id=9129502
DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham Police confirm to ABC11 that UNC basketball player P.J. Hairston was arrested Wednesday following a stop at a license check.
Police say the sophomore guard was stopped around 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of Holloway and Guthrie Streets near downtown Durham.
Hairston was charged with driving without a license. He, along with two other men, were also charged with possession of marijuana.
Authorities also said a gun was found on the ground outside Hairston's vehicle during the stop. Forensics testing is currently being done on the weapon, according to police.
Hairston has since been released from jail on a $1,000 bond.
The incident is still under investigation.
A spokesman for UNC Athletics tells ABC11 that they are aware of the situation.
THE NEWS reported also, PJ was cited for speeding in Durham 3 weeks ago.
This story is growing legs!
"We are aware of the situation involving one of our athletes," UNC Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications Steve Kirschner said. "We are still gathering information and may comment further later."
In April, Hairston confirmed he would be returning to UNC next season after considering going to the NBA.
It is unclear on how the arrest will impact Hairston's standing at the university.

Re: PJ Hairston... Unc player arrested
How did he manage not to get a no operator's license charge when he got charged with speeding? I would think in NC (like in VA) the no license is a more significant charge than the speeding. In VA a person can go to jail for driving without a license, even on a first offense (not likely, but possible) but not in a regular speeding case.
We can only hope the people doing the forensic testing on the firearm are NC State grads.
CathyCA, any thoughts on the firearm? In VA, the firearm wouldn't be that big a deal, even if it has his prints and DNA all over it, unless there are other bits of information that haven't hit the press yet.

The police report can be read here.

As a prosecutor, I could have much fun with this report.
Oh, yeah, and our typical dopeheads don't have almost an ounce and a half of weed at any one time. Of course, they aren't driving 2013 GMC Yukons, either.

Quick note..I disagree with typical dopeheads and the quantity. I don't smoke (I just look like I do), but I used to. I would often buy over an ounce, because it saved money, and we'd split it. So if three people went in together on the amount they got, (or even if it was just his) it would still not raise any alarms in my head. Now if he had been busted with like 2 ounces or more, there would be a good chance he's hoping to make a few bucks profit. (Although it wouldn't be much.)lawgrad91 wrote:The police report can be read here.

Yeah, what he said. Back in the day we always bought as lare a quantity as we could and split it up.

Yes, I wondered about why he wasn't charged with the NOL when he got the earlier speeding charge.lawgrad91 wrote:How did he manage not to get a no operator's license charge when he got charged with speeding? The firearm is probably no big deal, unless it's stolen, or unless one of the people in the car was a convicted felon.

I said OUR typical dope heads, who don't have the foresight to buy in quantity. I think you are giving PJ and his guys too much credit.

He was probably just doing field work for a math class: 454 grams to a pound, 28 grams per ounce, 7 grams = a nickle bag. Wait, how do I know this stuff?CameronBornAndBred wrote:Now if he had been busted with like 2 ounces or more, there would be a good chance he's hoping to make a few bucks profit. What does this stuff cost these days? Ancient history for me.

Re: PJ Hairston... Unc player arrested
Also if caught with marijuana, you do NOT want to say you bought it to share with your friends, because then it's possession with intent to distribute, a felony in Virginia if over half an ounce. It doesn't matter if you plan to sell it or give it away, it's still PWID. In Virginia, if you say it's for your own use, it is very difficult for the prosecutor to prove otherwise, even if what you have is a kilo. Quantity isn't enough to prove intent.
In the Varnish Zone, a joint will set you back about $10 these days. (Bob, I think your nickel bags are generous; we usually see a bit less, like 5g/bag. Or maybe that's just inflation.)

Re: PJ Hairston... Unc player arrested
Has the name been released that rented the 2013 Yukon for PJ ? That NAME will be very significant! Unless, it was PJ's Mother!
How much Pot was found in the vehicle??? Or what is the value in $$.
I remember in High School, the Pot heads talking about a Nickel and Dime Bag, and rolling papers. Did that refer to Nickel as in weight or $5 ?
The attorneys can school me on this, because I don't know. However, I am sure Pot is inexpensive, and should be legalized and taxed, like cigarettes. How many states are legal now??
I was wondering the same thing about the Speeding ticket PJ was cited for 3 weeks ago. He was cited for no operator's license!

Re: PJ Hairston... Unc player arrested
He could always claim the marijuana belonged to his dog like this guy did:

"Cleveland Indians two-time All-Star closer Chris Perez, charged with misdemeanor possession after marijuana was mailed to his home in his dog's name..."

Re: PJ Hairston... Unc player arrested
I just want to know the name on the Rental Agreement for the Yukon. Whether it is a Leased Vehicle or Rent-a-Car. If the name is an Unc booster or Agent........ that's a NCAA situation.
Maybe PJ was just picking up his friends in Durham and riding around. Bless his heart!
I am sure all the information and details will be released this week.
