The Restaurant Thread
Some of the posts in other threads have me thinking we need a restaurant thread. Post away on where you've eaten recently (good and bad), places that your remember but are now gone, or if you are traveling and looking for suggestions on places to eat.

Re: The Restaurant Thread
Well, I'm gonna be around South of the Border in a couple weeks. Any good places to eat near Dillon, SC?
As for places I love, the aforementioned Angus Barn is one of my all-time faves, as you can probably tell. I also miss Darryl's, as mentioned.
I like me some Ruth's Chris, but only get out there about once a year.
The Great American Restaurants chain here in the DC area is EXCELLENT. We love those. I haven't been to all of them, but my second favorite restaurant behind AB is probably Sweetwater Tavern in Centreville, VA. Mike's American in Springfield is also excellent, as is Artie's, Silverado, and Carlyle Grand. They also have several locations of Coastal Flatts, their seafood place. All are REALLY good. Sweetwater's fun because it has the brewery in it, and you can get all kinds of good microbrews there. Carlyle has the bakery that bakes bread for all the locations, so you can buy it to take home, but you can get the yummy "ozzie rolls" at any of their locations. Yes, you heard me right, "Ozzie" rolls. ;)

Re: The Restaurant Thread
I grew up on Darryl's, it wasn't too far from my house as a kid and we ate there lots. It was also the place to be after school dances, although I'm pretty sure the other customers were less than thrilled. My favorite parts were the jail and the elevator. It also had the first salad bar that I can remember, my parents were huge fans of it.

Re: The Restaurant Thread
Several of my favorite restaurants enjoyed over the years have closed. One is the Berghoff in Chicago. It survived Chicago fires and the Great Depression, but not the last change in peoples' eating habits. Their house brand of beef, cold on a hot summer day was heaven! Another favorite now closed would be Housmann's in Baltimore. The surroundings were as interesting as the multi page menu with the day's specials on several legal page sized sheets inserted in the menu. You could find everything from typical German dishes to shrimp sausage to elk. The desserts were special, too, because the place was also a bakery. The last among the favorites now closed would be Pearl of the Atlantic in Port Chester NY (I think that's right.... right at the New York, Connecticut border). It was located on trickle of a river. Directions to get there included following the town garbage trucks part of the way down a narrow, hidden street. The seafood prepared Brazilian style was out of this world! I was about to forget the Amos N Andy hot dog places in various parts of Durham and Hartman's Steak House in Durham (fabulous steaks and outrageous blue cheese salad dressing).
Among which continue to be open, my favorites include places like the Columbia in Ybor City, FL, the Beacon Drive In in Spartenburg SC, K Paul's in NOLA (upstairs), Commander's Palace in New Orleans ( actually just about any of the Brennan family's restaurants), Don Shula's Steak Houses and Buca di Beppo in various locations across the country. I particularly enjoy the Pope Room and the Sinatra Room!

I'm really disappointed that Ozzie didn't comment on the rolls from the Great American Restaurants. I figured he'd be all over that.
