Computer Experts Help!

Please help me. I'm going insane. I just got a new Windows 7 laptop. I stuck my brand new Office 2010 CD in and told it to install. When it was done, it told me to go under the start menu and click on microsoft office to use it. I did so, and it asked for the product key again. I entered it again, and it went into this long configuration process, then told me to restart. I did, and now the option is gone from the start menu. When I stick the CD back in, it says it's already installed and asks if I want to reconfigure it or repair the install, but I can't find it anywhere on the hard drive. This is REALLY pissing me off. What the hell am I doing wrong and how do I fix it? Installing programs should NOT be this damn hard.

Any help would be appreciated.

RIght above the start button is a text box. Simply type in "Word" or "Excel", and you will see the programs and their locations appear above.

I'm an idiot. I was typing office in that text box and it wasn't showing up. I went under all programs and just kept scrolling down and found it. It was alphabetical, so I didn't realize that it would be in a separate section where the alphabet restarted after all the "Windows" entries. I guess it has folders under the individual programs. I was looking under M for Microsoft, but it was in the NEXT section under M for Microsoft.

I use McAfee - my ISP provides it free. I haver also used Computer Associates (CA) which is more reasonabley priced and pretty good. I, who once promised her first born to Peter Norton, can no longer stand Norton's products as they are too intrusive (imho).
