I'm not going all PPB here, but I think I have a clearer understanding of the citizens of the Varnish Zone if this is the type of person whom they elect to the city council.
Sad, isn't it? And they'll put it up with a disclaimer? Oh, please.
Technically, she is on City Council of the independent City of Martinsville, which is not a part of Henry County, but a lot of the services overlap. Martinsville is forever studying reversion to town status in Henry County, but I doubt it will ever happen, or at least I hope it doesn't in the next 1346 days.
I have hope for the citizens of the Varnish Zone, however, because those amazing kids are going to grow up to be thoughtful caring citizens. What a great group of students! It's a shame that she made one kid cry and berated the kid who created the quilt square, even when he had the courage and fortitude to come to the microphone to explain his intent. "What color would you have me make it?" Great response!
These kids attend Governor's School, which is a joint program of the local high schools for the most academically talented.
Typically, they graduate and move away to someplace where their academic talents and abilities are lauded.
Without getting too PPB myself, I would like to tell Ms. Hodge that she might want to study the "I Have a Dream" speech. These kids certainly understand it better than she does.

My favorite part:
He also wasn’t a huge fan of UNC (when it came to basketball), but it just made too much academic and financial sense.
“I was very grateful to get into Chapel Hill – it’s one of the best public med schools in the country,” Jeong says. “I was an in-state resident, and the tuition was so affordable. ... I remember one of the medical professors said, ‘You couldn’t be more cost-effective a med school than University of North Carolina School of Medicine.’ Having said that? Duke fan through and through, still to this day.”
He wore Duke spirit-wear on campus, even had a dark-blue Ford Mustang that he parked at the Dean Smith Center to get to his med school classes. “I had no problem wearing Duke stuff, I really didn’t. I think I might have been maybe more young and naive and more fearless at that time.”
GOOD STUFF!!!!!! Thanks for sharing DD about Cheerleader Daughter!!!!

Thanks, Cathy!
Feedback received from first person. They thought it was overpriced - found more functional space elsewhere for less money.

Proud aunt moment of the day: my oldest niece received the Outstanding Student in Psychology award at her college. She won first place at the Missouri Academy of Science last weekend for a presentation of her research, which she also presented at a national meeting in Atlanta. She's going to have a publication on this work as well. She's been on the Dean's List every semester of college, I believe.
Now, riddle me this: how competitive is admission to grad school for her desired field if she was not accepted anywhere that she applied?

Congratulations to ArkieNiecie!
I do not understand college or grad school admissions. She needs to keep trying!

She wants to go into a field that's really competitive. I've heard that most programs accept fewer than 5 students per year. She probably needs more work experience in her field.
