I can't believe I'm linking something from the group of misfits at that institution of drive-through learning, but a video of their quarterback running away in a huff and fainting goats is too good to pass up.

Re: LTE 2.0
It may not be that difficult, assuming The Boss will let me do what needs to be done. Took a look at the method today. They're trying to quantify a modified DNA base that's present at less than 1%. The standard curve ranged from 0.2%-30%. In order to measure accurately, you'd want multiple points below 1% and you wouldn't go higher than maybe 2%. Current curve has a single point below 1%. Oh, and all of the standards are 10fold lower than the amount of hydrolyzed DNA that will be analyzed. So, in summary, the analytical method itself is a hundred kinds of messed up. I haven't even touched sample prep yet.lawgrad91 wrote:Pointy-toed shin kicks to The Boss. You are supposed to do in two weeks what the (apparent pet) postdoc hasn't been able to do in a year?ArkieDukie wrote:Well, I had a fun day. The Boss called me in and told me that he has put me in charge of a project that one of his postdocs has been trying to get working for the past year. He said specifically that I will be held accountable if the method is not up and running within 2 weeks. This is the same project that I tried to work with the postdoc on several times before (once shortly after Wile E. Coyote joined our institution), and he has yet to listen to anything I tell him. Keep in mind here that I have 2 publications on a method relating to the one they're trying to get online - one of them is in The New England Journal of Medicine. I did some of the initial work on the current method (on the instrumentation part), but the postdoc took things over before I had a chance to finish all of my work - on The Boss' orders. He's doing things in a completely convoluted manner and argues any time I suggest a change. So, basically, my fate now rests on the work of someone who's doing things incorrectly and won't listen to anything I say when I try to fix it. Moreover, I wanted to make one of the necessary method changes today and The Boss vetoed it. Yes, I am annoyed and frustrated.

Re: LTE 2.0
Earlier this week, I called my former boss (aka PHB) to ask for his advice on some work I'm doing here. This is the second time I've asked. This morning I received an email, asking if I was available to chat at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning. I sent an email to my collaborator in CA, asking if she had any questions since I had an audience with The Wizard (as in Wizard of Oz). I got a LOL out of her. PHB is notorious for double-booking appointments, not returning phone calls, and ignoring email messages. So, often his existence cannot be proven outside of hearsay, although he has done great and wondrous things. It appears as though I may have come up with a new nickname for my former boss.
Of course, I have no guarantees that he wrote this phone call on his schedule...

I'm not going all PPB here, but I think I have a clearer understanding of the citizens of the Varnish Zone if this is the type of person whom they elect to the city council.

Technically, she is on City Council of the independent City of Martinsville, which is not a part of Henry County, but a lot of the services overlap. Martinsville is forever studying reversion to town status in Henry County, but I doubt it will ever happen, or at least I hope it doesn't in the next 1346 days.

I have hope for the citizens of the Varnish Zone, however, because those amazing kids are going to grow up to be thoughtful caring citizens. What a great group of students! It's a shame that she made one kid cry and berated the kid who created the quilt square, even when he had the courage and fortitude to come to the microphone to explain his intent. "What color would you have me make it?" Great response!lawgrad91 wrote:Sad, isn't it? And they'll put it up with a disclaimer? Oh, please.CathyCA wrote:Calling Lawgrad!

Great stuff. Just sent link to my cheerleader daughter who is a first year med student there now. She has been known on more than one occasion (at least 3 times this year ) to sport a Pantone 287 selection ( ) of the color chart in classes.lawgrad91 wrote:http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/0 ... funny.html

My favorite part:
He also wasn’t a huge fan of UNC (when it came to basketball), but it just made too much academic and financial sense.
“I was very grateful to get into Chapel Hill – it’s one of the best public med schools in the country,” Jeong says. “I was an in-state resident, and the tuition was so affordable. ... I remember one of the medical professors said, ‘You couldn’t be more cost-effective a med school than University of North Carolina School of Medicine.’ Having said that? Duke fan through and through, still to this day.”
He wore Duke spirit-wear on campus, even had a dark-blue Ford Mustang that he parked at the Dean Smith Center to get to his med school classes. “I had no problem wearing Duke stuff, I really didn’t. I think I might have been maybe more young and naive and more fearless at that time.”
