Question for the Durhamites

Post by lawgrad91 » February 15th, 2013, 9:00 pm

My friend's cousin Nick is moving to Durham from Colorado. He found a townhouse to rent, but doesn't have any furniture. Can anyone suggest a good consignment shop that would have furniture, or is there a nice Goodwill in town or nearby?

Thanks. :duke:

How about the ReStore operated by Habitat for Humanity? http://www.durhamhabitat.org/restore/

Here's a list of stores selling used furniture. http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Us ... rham%2C+NC ;;)

I highly recommend the TROSA furniture store at 303 Foster St. in downtown Durham. Here is the link to the store - http://trosafurniture.com/
TROSA is a non-profit substance abuse treatment program that runs several businesses in which the TROSA residents work to learn job skills. We have purchased furniture, had framing done, and used their moving services and have been very pleased with everything. Duke Medicine is involved with the treatment program and Duke students perform community service there.

Thanks for the suggestions. I passed them along to Robin to give to Nick.

"Once and Again" on Chapel Hill Blvd near Barnes and Noble, "Classic Treasures" across from Foster's Market on University Drive. Yet another on Garrett Road. Can't remember the name of that one. I have bought and sold items at Once and Again and can recommend them. The other two are worth looking at as well.

The DURHAM RESCUE MISSION just opened a new Thrift store on 15/501 across from the old South Square Mall. Beside Michael Jordan Nissan, and close to the McDonald's in front of The Glass University Tower Building. The store opened Jan 2013.

All profits are for the Mission!!!!

I have gotten a nice black leather desk chair for $5. A swivel Chrome and leather bar stool for $3. A retro lamp for $7. And a nice computer desk for $7. Always nice bedroom sets, couches, chairs, antiques, and furniture accessories and bric-a-brac. There are coupons on FAcebook, and daily specials, written on the chalkboard inside the store.

DurhamRescueMission.org

3 stores in total! New one of 15/501 close to Duke west campus. One on hwy 70, on the same side as Angus Barn. And another on Hwy 55, where Cornwallis crosses over.

Great buys in all the stores!!! Mon - Sat. Closed Sundays!!!

I was not aware of this, DWP. Thanks for this info. Durham Rescue Mission is so worthy of all support.
