Happy 4th Of July

Post by colchar » July 4th, 2009, 12:15 am

Happy 4th of July to all of the Americans here (which probably means everyone except me!).

Hope you all enjoy your long weekend, BBQs, families, etc.

Happy Birthday, America! And thanks, Colchar, for the kind wishes. I got the ribs and cornbread and beans ready to go.

The only thing I DON'T like about July 4th is that my neighbors set off the big, illegal fireworks all night. It's okay until about 11, when it starts keeping my kids up. Also, they don't know how to aim them properly, so a lot of stuff hits our house and trees. The last thing I need is a house fire. I love Sue and all, but I can't imagine having to join her in hotel land with a wife, three kids, a bunny, and a sugar glider.

I flippin' love the 4th of July. I believe it to be one of the three best days of the calendar year.
Beach all day, fireworks tonight. Yes, please.

Yup, me too.

It's low tide right now. The water is smooth, 83 degrees, a perfect azure blue, with minimal waves. I would comment on how the sand looks like fine sugar, except that some genius decided it would be a good idea to pump fill dirt from an old road bed on the beach, so we have clumps of red clay and asphalt along the strand. I'm going to spend the whole day on the beach--searching for shells and then kayaking! Woo-hoo!

We'll grill burgers tonight and watch fireworks.

Happy 4th all! I'm staying home and hiding, I always do on the big holiday weekends, too many people here at the beach. Gonna smoke up a few pounds of barbecue shortly, and enjoy the day with the family.

Yeah, I hate that too. On Canada Day I had to step outside and have a few words with the idiots that live two doors up from us. And yes, they stopped. Immediately.

...and for the third straight year, Nathan's hot dog eating crown remains where it belongs, in 'Merkan hands. A record 68 frankfurters (God, I love that word) for Joey Chestnut this year:

I haven't gone kayaking yet, but here's a picture of me and my brothers on the pier this afternoon. Just before the photographer snapped the picture, I said, "Suck in your stomachs," and that's why my brother looks so, uh, sucked in.

Anyone who lives south of the Canadian-US border is a Yank, regardless of where one lives in the US!

And there is only one way to spell eh ;)

We had a beautiful day at the beach here - 84 & sunny - but swimming involved a dry suit, 28 lbs. of lead, an airtank, and a bag for catching crabs. :D

Thanks, Colchar - have you recovered from your Canada Day debauchery in time to help us celebrate? ;)

Strangely enough, there was no debauchery on Canada Day. Shit, I haven't been drunk in about a week now. Might have to remedy that tomorrow.
