Re: Happy Canada Day
Thanks! Strangely enough, I was posting a thread about this just as you were posting yours. I guess warped minds think alike.

"O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee."
Happy celebrating, Colchar!

Woo hoo, I'm not the only American who knows the Canadian national anthem.DukieInKansas wrote:"O Canada!

Re: Happy Canada Day
I was just talking yesterday on the phone to one of the Canadian Club of lemur researchers who went to grad school with me. She is in southern Madagascar, and mentioned celebrating Canada/Dominion Day in the bush. Unfortunately, I couldn't post here, due to SPAMHAUS, but I am hoping this matter is now resolved.
Two points:
1) Interesting how the English, not the French, lyrics to Oh Canada! were given.
2) Have you ever noticed that the Maple Leafs and Duke have VERY similar team colors? Are their pantones different?
The most important question is:
How are you celebrating, colchar?
Cheers,
Lavabe

Re: Happy Canada Day
As far as I am concerned, we are an English country so the English lyrics are the only ones that are important. (by the way, this comment was in no way intended to come across as being rude - except to French Canadians ;) )Lavabe wrote: Two points:

Yes, I have noticed the similarity in colours!2) Have you ever noticed that the Maple Leafs and Duke have VERY similar team colors? Are their pantones different?
At the moment, I'm not really celebrating Canada Day - but I am celebrating the opening of NHL free agency by watching the TV coverage. The show started at noon and will continue throughout the day. NHL trade deadline day and the opening of NHL free agency are unofficial national holidays up here. I won't leave the couch until the TV coverage is over for the day and I've watched all the recaps. On trade deadline day my roommate and I spent about eleven hours flaked on the couches watching the coverage. Today we've only gotten up to grab drinks and snacks. Heck, my laptop is usually on the table across the room but today it is resting on my stomach so that I can surf the interwebs without having to leave the couch because God forbid I only hear about a signing from across the room. If you want an idea of how much we follow the signings check out the comments that have been added to my status update on Facebook - there have been over twenty comments added in the last couple of hours. The most important question is:
How are you celebrating, colchar?
Once all of the free agency coverage is finished we'll BBQ and hit the beers. Or I might hit the beers soon and enjoy them as I watch the coverage.
And, almost as important as free agency, the CFL season starts tonight so we'll be watching the Toronto-Hamilton game tonight (I'm a Toronto fan and my roommate is a Hamilton fan) and then the Calgary-Montreal game after that.

In the D, that being Detroit, we always loved the fireworks over Windsor and the bridge.

I lived in Windsor for a couple of years and the Canada Day/Fourth of July period was always great!
