Congratulations! What a great day.
Do you have any vacation time available to use up so you don't actually have to go to the office for some of the 2 weeks?

I have roughly 2 weeks of vacation time that I will be cashing out. That will cover the 2 weeks I'll be using to move to Galveston.DukieInKansas wrote:Congratulations! What a great day.

Be glad that this was the response and move on. It's not worthy of any analysis. Drama over. Rainbow over head.ArkieDukie wrote:Today was the big day. 1) Congratulations, Arkie!
2) As for PHB... I agree with Tilly's assessment. But again... not worthy of too much analysis.
3) Any word on the abstract?
4) I hope that telling the person with the grant application went well.
Arkie: On a more serious note, I hope this last 15 months or so has not taken a big toll on your health. Please consider getting a check-up and dental exam BEFORE the move.
Cheers!!!

As a practical matter, this is very good advice. Be sure you go to see your dentist, your gyno, your optometrist and your hairdresser before you leave.Arkie: On a more serious note, I hope this last 15 months or so has not taken a big toll on your health. It's always difficult to re-establish these services when you move, and it will take you months to find new professionals whom you trust, especially the hairdresser!
I'm still so happy for you!

Here we go, Arkie, here we go!!!
Well HOORAY!!!!! I missed this news yesterday. We were all busy here at the Crisis Center. It's MAH-velous news! When do you head down to look for new digs? Did you sleep at all last night? Or were you too excited?
PHB's response was just right I think. Had he fawned regret over your leaving you might have lost your cool and slapped his disingenuous face. Do you think he had any clue this was in the works?
Don't you wish you could leave your little shadow around there to watch as the house of cards implodes?
Love, Ima

Re: The Official Take this job and SHOVE IT! Thread
Today was a most interesting day. PHB asked me yesterday to generate a list of projects with work remaining, which I did. First thing this morning, I received a response from him. He asked me to continue working on data analysis for the projects on my list after I move to UTMB. This is actually win-win: more visibility for me, and it lets me tie up some projects for which no one else in the lab (including PHB) is capable of doing the necessary work. I've broken the news to all of these people that I'm moving and am awaiting word on who wants to keep working with me.
Also interesting: he asked me to do some work on the cancer project - again, some stuff that NuBarbie can't do. Even offered to buy the necessary software for me to do the work. I got the blessing from my future boss to do all of this, and he even offered to buy the software for me so I'd have it to work with. (score!) The last offer from PHB, a huge surprise, is really beneficial for me. It is never a bad thing to have some visibility in a consortium that includes top scientists in my field - people at Vandy, The Broad Institute (MIT/Harvard), and Johns Hopkins, for example.
I find it interesting that the response came this morning. After having a little time for the reality to sink in, did someone realize that he's hosed?

You are no longer an underling! You are now a valuable resource, someone he knows he can't replace with a quick hire off the street! Is he going to pay you for your work as a consultant?
