I went out to do errands this afternoon and the car thermometer said 108. The bank said it was only 101.

I'm back home on the western edge of the Piedmont after spending the week in the mountains over looking the New River where many floated along getting sunburned. We were all cool and comfy up on the ridge.
This afternoon a couple of little thunderstorms blew through delaying my departure slightly. Humidity is still pretty high; some rain has helped the parched grass revive.

Next weekend, I'll be venturing back to the state North of you with the rest of the DA clan in tow. I hope hope hope the heat dome dissipates before then.

It was actually almost pleasant playing golf this morning as it was overcast for most of the morning. It wasn't until about noon that the sun came out and the temp started to really climb. Riding in a cart makes it so much easier than walking, if for no other reason than every few minutes you generate your own 8 mph breeze for a couple of hundred yards! I played OK. Didn't embarrass myself, didn't hurt myself, and didn't break any clubs. And won a few bucks in the side games I was involved in

Yesterday we saw the Tryon Palace and three of the historic houses on the tour. This morning, we will see the gardens and the forth house. This afternoon we will go to the Pepsi Cola Museum and a few other sites. I want to see the gardens but dread the heat. They don't open until 10 AM.

It is very hot! However, yesterday afternoon, after some thunder, a nice breeze was felt throughout the evening.
Use your sunscreen and drink plenty of water!

Thunder and lightning in Wake County since about 430 AM today with estimates of 3-5 inches of rain having fallen already. Flash flood watch is in effect until noon today with another 1-3 inches of rain in the forecast before the slow-moving line of storms passes on through. We were 8+ inches of rain deficient for the year last month, 5+ earlier this week and might be close to even for the year when today's measurements become official. Amazing! We have gone from severe drought to probably mild or no drought in about 2-3 weeks. I'll check lake levels tomorrow in the News & Observer to see if they have been repleted.

A friend of mine owns a landscaping business in Raleigh (does beautiful work by the way). Here is his facebook status.
Is this a good "flood test" for your f**king patio, Mr Cunningham???!!!
I don't know who Mr. Cunningham is, but I'm guessing he asked Mike one too many times about a "flood test".
Here's Mike's website by the way.

Glad I put a roof on my pergola. I only wish I had made it a little larger.

Tornado warning for Forsyth Co til 7:15. The nice people at Channel 2 say Walkertown will get slammed at 7:08 by the associated thunderstorm.
I don't think the dogs will be thrilled about the idea of going into the little bathroom until the storm passes through.

Update: the nice lady at Channel 2 said to go in your bathroom and put a book over your neck.
Ozzie, you'd be livid to know that they have pre-empted the last PGA major of the year, though now they have the golf and the live radar on split screens.

The weather people were off by 2 minutes. Big storm started at 7:06. Hail against window, heavy rain, lots of thunder.
I do not have a book wrapped around my neck.
