Vibes for Kelly
Last night, Kelly fell backwards onto a cut piece of bamboo while she was walking the dogs. She had surgery last night and has been on a heavy course of antibiotics. Earlier this afternoon she was able to get up and walk around the room for a minute and has already started to nibble on bread.
Surgeon says her wounds are healing well, but there was serious trauma so we're not in the clear yet. We've got to keep an eye on her blood count; it's still pretty low but starting to show signs of improvement - and we've got to make sure surgical sites don't get infected.
Looks like she'll be here until Friday. We have blood work in the AM, then a follow-up from her surgeon. I'll let you know as soon as I have more info.

Heal quickly and with minimal discomfort and with no infection, Kelly.

getting a batch of butterscotch oatmeal cookies together for when she gets home. I think they have healing properties.

Oh MAN! Can you tell us where she was stabbed? That sounds brutal! This board is made up of past masters at infection fighting vibes! So she's in very good hands.

Re: Vibes for Kelly
Thanks for the vibes everyone. Kelly is doing well this morning, though there was an increase in her temperature early this morning. Nurses aren't too worried yet, but it's got my head in a spin. She's getting blood work regularly, so we'll wait for the results of the blood work and our next visit from the surgeon.
I hope everyone understands, but Kelly and I prefer not to think or talk about the injury anymore. We're both exhausted already (less than 36 hours since surgery), and have a lot more work ahead of us. We prefer to focus our energy on moving forward, and not recalling that horrible night.
We send our love and thanks, and I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Speedy healing and recovery to Kelly.
where in the world was the bamboo? It does sound like something tribal or midevil.
Vibes go to Kelly. It sounds so painful. I hope good pain meds are on hand and often.

Re: Vibes for Kelly
Quick update: Kelly's hemoglobin is still low but slowly climbing. They are still holding off on a blood transfusion, so keep your fingers crossed. No word on when she can return home, but it looks like we're in the weekend time frame, maybe as early as Friday. Pain is still significant, but decreasing.
It's still too early to say for sure, but her surgeon believes that she'll need two to four weeks of bed rest and recovery. That's also an improvement as early signs indicated it might be at least six weeks for recovery.
For now, the big issue is comfort and rest; two things which seem to be scarce in her room. There's a constant interruption from lab techs, nurses, house keeping and more than anything she just wants a little peace, quiet and privacy. Hopefully her blood count goes up and other indicators remain positive so we can go home soon.

Re: Vibes for Kelly
Prayers and vibes for continued healing.
The last place you want to go to get any rest is a hospital. I hope she is released to go home as soon as safely possible.

If and when you want/need to talk about it we are here. Meanwhile another dose of vibes...hopefully enough to get her home "soonest"
