Technically, yes. Chances are slim that IE (or Firefox) sitting idle will be the cause of you getting a virus, but it is possible.CathyCA wrote:Attention, computer geeks:

Mr. XXX has asked that we not keep internet explorer open when we are not using it, it makes our computer more accessible to viruses. Thanks!

Isn't it far more likely that the computer will get a virus if someone is visiting a porn site or a free music download site?CameronBornAndBred wrote:Technically, yes. I don't think that my computer is particularly vulnerable to getting a virus if I've got my gmail account open, is it?
I can tell that someone has upgraded the pop-up blocker on our office computer during my week of vacation.

Re: LTE 2.0
Most of the viruses I've seen lately (which are very nasty by the way) come from visiting everyday sites that we all consider safe. All it takes is for you to hit that "safe" site at the wrong time. Usually you will see a windows looking popup saying a virus has been detected and your computer needs to be scanned. Or your computer has detected a hard drive problem and you need to reboot to fix it. Whatever the message, as soon as you hit "ok", you're up the creek. Honestly, the best thing to do if you see such a message is to reboot your computer without hitting any of those messages. Don't even close them, sometime the "x" is programmed to activate the installation as well. I've got virus protection out the wazoo on my computers, and I have seen these messages fairly frequently. If you shut down without doing anything else, the install of the virus can't actually execute.CathyCA wrote:Isn't it far more likely that the computer will get a virus if someone is visiting a porn site or a free music download site?CameronBornAndBred wrote:Technically, yes. Harumph.
PHB just called secretary to have her tell me that he was planning to be in court tomorrow for last guilty plea on a certain case. Since I'm not in court tomorrow, I have no idea why he wanted her to tell me, but the fact that he is coming back makes an otherwise pleasant day absolutely sucky.

Let's see:

1964 - Scotland Neck (1st and 2nd grades)
1970 - Durham (3rd through 7th grades - 2 different schools)

I think that's about every 4.4 years. The parentheticals are my school years.

There's even more moving than from town to town. In 2 of those towns, we moved from one parsonage to another during the same appointment.lawgrad91 wrote:That's a lot of moving. Like being a military kid, without the PX privileges.CathyCA wrote:

And then there are my own moves as an adult from Winston-Salem to Raleigh (2 house moves there), Raleigh to San Jose (2 house moves there), and San Jose to Greenville. I have even shipped cars.
I don't intend to move again. I'm just going to buy a second home at the beach.

Two of my friends have joined the "Sign Caylee's Law" page on Facebook, so as not to let Caylee Anthony's death be in "vane."
I suppose I should be happy they don't want her death to be in "vein."

I promised a big check in the offering plate on Sunday if we could have an extra day of peace and quiet at the salt mine. Wondering how many zeros that check should have.DevilAlumna wrote:Well, if he was flying through Chicago, you may have gotten your wish courtesy of major power outages.lawgrad91 wrote:Harumph.

Re: LTE 2.0
I got to spend the afternoon with my bestest girlfriend!!!
We've known each other since 9th grade, stayed friends through college before the serious use of e-mail, were in each others' weddings, and now are sharing the joys of parenthood (she has a 3 yo, and a 6 month old.) We may not talk for months on end, but when we do, like today, it's as if we were back in HS, pouring our hearts out, laughing, crying, and just enjoying each other's company.
I wish she lived closer than the upper Midwest, but I'm glad her husband has family not too far from here, as it brings her out every now and then.
And FutureDA behaved so well!! An hour's drive each way, and she slept in the car seat all but the last 20 minutes of the ride.

What's your estimate for when she's finally all done? Are you getting all new interior work (upholstery, trim) too?YmoBeThere wrote:Verdoro Green paint on the trunk lid of a 1968 Firebird 400

Re: LTE 2.0
Given the lack of devildeac posts on CTN of late, I got to thinking what it would take to catch devildeac's postcount.
To catch devildeac, I would need another 20 Women's World Cup games AND another 20 NASCAR races.
AND devildeac would need to stop reporting about beer.
NOT going to happen, but fun to consider.

I'm watching less and less TV these days. Unless it is automobile related. Overhaulin', MuscleCar TV, Wrecks to Riches, etc. The occasional Mecum Auction. In other words, I watch Discovery, Speed, and HD Theater mostly. Along with business news.
The only dogs I saw yesterday, were people's pets.
