Girl Served Mudslide at Chicago Chili's

Post by bjornolf » April 19th, 2011, 8:50 am

Apparently they served a 4 year old a mudslide instead of a chocolate milkshake at a Chili's in Chicago, and this kind of stuff has been happening recently. I can certainly see being upset, but I don't get the calling police thing over an honest mistake. Anyway, you can read about it, and some other incidents like it, here:

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/04/18/ ... at-chilis/

I guess the moral is that we should all at least smell the drinks our kids get at restaurants before letting them drink them.

Another lesson: Don't let your 4 year old order a fucking milkshake at Chilis. Am I the only one appalled at that menu choice?

Can't argue with you there. Chili's milkshakes are crap.

Is this different from the little girl who got some sort of fruity alcoholic drink instead of orange juice, which was also I think at a Chili's last week? Saw that on one of the morning news programs and they definitely said the child expected orange juice.

Yes, it must be. That child was Caucasian.

No doubt the family called the police so they could have a report for litigation purposes, and so the plaintiffs can have an authority figure testify in the jury trial that may follow.

This information from Chili's contained in the news report is very telling:
• Initial findings in our investigation reveal conflicting details of how this story is being reported and what occurred in our restaurant. The drink in question was served to an adult, in glass barware, not to a child or in a kids’ cup.

• To our knowledge, Ms. Davis and her daughter ordered a kids’ drink (red fruit punch) and a chocolate shake. The fruit punch beverage was served to Brooklynn in a plastic kid cup with a lid and straw. The beverage Ms. Davis received was served in glass barware.
Sounds to me as though someone cooked up a get rich quick scheme. Does anyone remember the finger in the chili incident at Wendy's in San Jose?

You have to think that if Chili's point of view is the truth, the parent's should be arrested for child endangerment (and fraud). It does seem strange that this case would come so close on the heels of the other two. Someone will have to explain how two glasses with similar looking drinks wound up on the table. I don't see a kids cup with a fruit drink.

Yes, the story I linked mentioned that one, and another. One was a toddler in Detroit that got a margarita at an Applebee's, the other was a 2 year old that got a sangria at an Olive Garden in Florida.

What blows my mind is that there are segments of the population that can't stand the police, then call 911 when McDonald's is out of chicken nuggets or their kid gets the wrong drink. And yes, I realize that a child getting an alcoholic drink by accident is a VERY serious matter. However, I don't see why the police have to be called. And after three or four sips, I find it hard to believe the child was really that sick. They said she got "drowsy". Sure she did. She drank some alcohol. Our parents used to load us up with alcoholic cough syrup when we were kids and got sick. It made us all get (-| and :asleep:. None of us got hauled off to the hospital.

She received a "breathing" treatment at the hospital. They didn't pump her stomach or anything.

Most adults, parents or caregivers, taste or smell the children's drink and or food, before giving to the child. Also, in those types of restaurants, the servers generally use a to go cup or plastic sippy cup for children.

A drink with any alcohol has to come from the bar, and the bartender makes them, and put on the service window for the servers.

I understand 1 case like the first case of mistaken Beverage. But now, is everyone joining the bandwagon.

Also.... I remember taking Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup as a child, and then nodding off within about 5 minutes! My parents never went to jail! And I slept nice, and didnt cough. Imagine that!

My dad said that when he was a kid and got a cold, his mom would give him a thumb of whiskey.

My BFF's grandma, who raised her, put whiskey on her gums when she was teething, 40 years ago. Lara turned out pretty good.

When Gma was in her 90's and the hospice chaplain came to visit, she was always happy when it was the Catholic priest, because he brought real wine for communion.

My great grandmother was describe as a child as 'high strung' with a 'nervous constitution'. Her Dr. back in the day prescribed a shot whiskey before bed at night to settle her nerves. She eventually switched to Scotch. I guess it worked, because she followed the advice damn near every night of her life. She died in her sleep a few months after my daughter, her first great-great grandchild was born. She was 104.
