Favorite MLB Caps
As a sequel to the MLB stadiums thread, what are people's favorite MLB caps? Let's do one from the AL and one from the NL and, if you want, one historic/retired cap as a wild card.
AL: Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo red bill--Although I realize this is the most offensive logo in all of sports, it's a classic cap and I'm a homer.
NL: San Francisco Giants Black Cap--Again, very simple and classic. This would be my favorite in all of baseball
Wild Card: Montreal Expos Pinwheel--Perhaps this is just nostalgia, but I loved all the Expos hats, especially these ones

I don't have a photo but the Orioles (1980s with cartoon bird) had a great hat.
I own one, and I love it.
And when discussing hats, please be careful. The only difference between "hat" and "hate" is one vowel.

Baltimore should go back to those hats.EarlJam wrote:I don't have a photo but the Orioles (1980s with cartoon bird) had a great hat.

Totally agreed. The '83 hats. Worn by Flanagan, McGregor, Palmer, Boddicker, Murray, Ripken, Bumbry, Dempsy, etc.......rockymtn devil wrote:Baltimore should go back to those hats.EarlJam wrote:I don't have a photo but the Orioles (1980s with cartoon bird) had a great hat.

I like the SF hats. Classic.

The Detroit Tigers uniforms, caps and logo: classic and timeless, the closest thing to formal wear in the majors.

I'm one of the few fans who can tolerate the Yankees more than the Red Sox. Putting allegiances aside, though, both teams have excellent caps. Of course, the don't compare to the Tribe.DukeUsul wrote:Barf.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:Need you ask?

Re: Favorite MLB Caps
I'll take two AL hats, Red Sox and Tigers, something about those Gothic letters. I love that Boston B, ditto the Detroit D.
If I had to pick and NL hat, I'll go with the Cincy C.

The time is out of joint, O cursed spite!
Re: Favorite MLB Caps
Actually, the Detroit magnificent "D" is in Old English font.

Re: Favorite MLB Caps
The LA Angels had the most creativity, with the white halo around the crown edge. I only wonder why they used white. Should'a been gold, or silver.

Actually, shoulda been a yellow boiled wool applique with white stitching around the edge (I know that at least BostonDevil will know what all of that means ;) ).captmojo wrote:The LA Angels had the most creativity, with the white halo around the crown edge. As for the best cap, I of course don't need to tell you, but it is definitively the following: As for the American League, I've always had a thing for this one: I still really dig the Athletics' color scheme.
Also, ditto to the submissions of the old Orioles caps, the '80s Blue Jays design, and the Expos pinwheel.
Every fall at my current house, the back deck is bombarded by falling acorns. It hurts like a motherfucker when one of those things you, especially on the head. So last year, my brother decided to get some of those old replica batting helmets (the ones with no ear flaps) to wear on the deck as both protection and typically absurd (for us) drinking ritual.
We went on ebay and scored the Orioles and Expos designs mentioned above, as well as a maroon '80s Philles model and a yellow with black brim Pirates one from the '70s, for about $5 a piece. They are awesome.
Does everybody know about Uni Watch? It's a biweekly column on ESPN.com tracking trends in sports uniform design, with a clear predilection for clean, timeless designs. It traffics heavily in minutiae and wit. It's my favorite thing at the Worldwide Leader:

Agreed on your choices.
