Why does the University of Georgia play "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" as a fight song?

They have their own lyrics:
"Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
G-E-O-R-G-I-A.
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
G-E-O-R-G-I-A."

Interestingly, Georgia Tech's songs, generally speaking, are far more profane, despite the fact that their students, generally speaking, are far dorkier.
