They should rename this night "Favre Night Football". Favre is automatic, a robot tonight. Even though I'm not impressed with his recent displays of megalomania, I must admit that it has been a pleasure to watch him play tonight.

I'm still not sold on Favre. After last night, the media has come around and declared him back to old Favre. To paraphrase former President Bush, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...you can't get fooled again. After the Jets' huge Monday Night win against New England in Week 11 last season, the media wrote the same sort of stuff they've been rushing to print today. But a funny thing happened on the way to the Super Bowl for the Jets. Favre wore down and single-handedly prevented that team from making the postseason. As this season progresses, teams will load the box to stop AP and force Favre to throw downfield, which I don't think he can do (or, better yet, I don't think he will be able to do after about November 1st).
vs. Ken vs. Ryu. Classic.

One big difference, though: I think that playing in a dome will help keep him from wearing down as much or as fast, and I think last year's AFC East was better than any NFC North for the entirety of that division's existence.

The entire Panther's offense is anemic. The offensive line lacks depth and skill and I don't care who your quarterback is, if you can't protect him he's going to make mistakes. It's a team sport, and the entire team just isn't very good, Jake or no Jake.CameronBornAndBred wrote:Just reiterating...Delhomme sucks.CameronBornAndBred wrote:Delhomme sucks...and is a whiner. I loathe Steve Smith. It is becoming more and more obvious that if you can get in his head you can take away his entire game. He's also one-dimensional and pretty much a supreme prick. Lump him together with TO, and Chad Ochocinco.wilson wrote:The Panthers:Miles wrote:The entire Panther's offense is anemic. Well, at least if the Panthers follow through and lose at home to the 'Skins, they can just let the young QB play and start building for the future.Miles wrote:I loathe Steve Smith. Oh, wait. The Panthers have cast their lot entirely with Jake Delhomme and not bothered to draft a QB since Chris Weinke. The next option on the depth chart is sweet slingin' Matt Moore.
Thanks for playing, Charlotte. Enjoy the basement for the next several years, and thank you for the ~8 automatic wins while your franchise attempts to regain relevance.

Give Delhomme an offensive line, say the '82 Hogs and you've got a Super Bowl trophy in Charlotte.wilson wrote:Well, at least if the Panthers follow through and lose at home to the 'Skins, they can just let the young QB play and start building for the future.Miles wrote:I loathe Steve Smith. Re: 2009 NFL Thread
Disagree, strongly. Jake Delhomme has never been that special as a QB. The only thing that ever got the Panthers close to Super Bowl caliber was several years of superlative defense.Miles wrote:Give Delhomme an offensive line, say the '82 Hogs and you've got a Super Bowl trophy in Charlotte.wilson wrote:Well, at least if the Panthers follow through and lose at home to the 'Skins, they can just let the young QB play and start building for the future.Miles wrote:I loathe Steve Smith. Re: 2009 NFL Thread
I don't think he's been that special of a quarterback either, but you don't have to be to win Super Bowls. Just ask the Ravens, and Bucs. I still think there could be a Super Bowl Trophy in Charlotte if you give him an offensive line that could:wilson wrote:Disagree, strongly. Jake Delhomme has never been that special as a QB. 1) Open up holes in the defensive and allow DeAngelo Williams to rush for more than 180 yards in 3 games.
2) Improve upon the 2+ sacks per game they're already allowing.
3) Protect the quarterback long enough so he doesn't have to be hero.
I understand you don't think Delhomme is a good quarterback, but it seems like you're oversimplifying the Panthers' woes. I don't care who your quarterback is, you don't win games with a crappy offensive line. It makes your offensive horribly one-dimensional by taking away the running game, and it puts undue pressure on your quarterback where he will inevitably make the mistakes that we've seen Delhomme make.

Re: 2009 NFL Thread
The guy did go 16 of 33 for 323 yards, 3 TDs and no INTs in the Super Bowl. The Panthers did not lose that game because of Jake Delhomme. They lost because their defense couldn't stop the Patriots. So...but for the "superlative defense", there would be a Lombardi Trophy in Charlotte, and Delhomme would probably be the owner of a Super Bowl MVP award.wilson wrote:Disagree, strongly. Of course, none of that justifies giving him a new contract before the season began.
