I have to buy a new computer...

Post by shereec » September 7th, 2016, 6:08 am

I've only had the old one since 2007 and it's time to replace it 8-|
I was wandering around Best Buy last night (where I stopped to get an external hard drive to back up the files I need to keep from the old computer) and a Lenovo all-in-one caught my eye. Anybody know anything about them? Any input is appreciated.

I would recommend from staying away from the AIOs. If you have a tower, and your monitor goes out, you get a new one. That's a different story with the AIO. As far as lenovo, they are fine, although nowadays it's hard to go wrong with much of anything. IF you are into the AIO, think about simply doing a laptop instead. Still a space saver, and it's portable.

Thanks for the input, CBB. One of the IT guys at work offered the same advice, after he finished calling other people over to tell them I had still been running Vista on a 10 year old computer.

I'm in a similar boat, but Windows 7 on an 8 year old computer. I'm thinking I can last a couple more years.

I replaced my 7 year old desktop running Vista 2 weeks ago with an Asus desktop running Windows 10. So far I'm very pleased with it. I5 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 1 TB hard drive. :9f:

Appreciate all the input and so glad to hear that I'm not the only one keeping stuff going. I just use things until they can't be used any longer (am driving a 16 year old car) - look at how much money we've all saved!
I did get an all-in-one - HP Pavilion. And the biggest reason is that it has a 27" screen. I don't think a laptop was going to give me that much screen and I don't really need it to be portable, but happy to reclaim the space my old tower took up. 12GB ram, 1TB hard drive - wow, do things open quickly and run fast! All the reviews I read were good (both from computer magazines and consumers). The setup was pretty easy (except for the instruction while I was setting up MS Office that told me to open the email they'd just sent me to confirm that I really was the owner of Outlook... I'm trying to set up email, Einstein! Luckily I found a link off of att.net to access online email but wonder how many folks will have trouble with that.)
Granted I haven't had it but for a minute and a half, but my initial response is good. Windows 10 doesn't seem that difficult to get used to, but I'm sure I'll have a more informed opinion in a week or so.
Thanks again for input!!
