RIP Lorenzo Charles
Lorenzo Charles was killed in a bus crash today in Raleigh. He was driving a tour bus and crashed it on I-40. He veered off the road, ran up an embankment, hit a tree and was killed. No one else was on the bus. Charles scored the winning bucket that won the 1983 National Championship for NC State (he caught that "pass" from Derek Whittenburg, or was that Sidney Lowe?, that didn't get near the basket as time expired...)

The "pass" was from Whittenburg. I just saw this on WRAL too. Prayers to his family.

Re: RIP Lorenzo Charles
Just speculating here, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that a medical "event", like a heart attack or stroke, preceded his crashing the bus. His dieing act may have been to veer the bus off the road to save other people from the danger his bus was about to pose at it hurtled out of his control. Heroic to the last.

Re: RIP Lorenzo Charles
I agree on the medical event. The only other thing I could think of would be a blown tire, but it would be likely someone would have witnessed that.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:Just speculating here, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that a medical "event", like a heart attack or stroke, preceded his crashing the bus. Wouldn't a blown tire be obvious after the accident?CameronBornAndBred wrote:I agree on the medical event. The medical event is the only reasonable explanation.
This is such a tragedy for his family and friends. I am so sad.
Where is our Wolfpack smiley?

I totally agree with Ozzie, on the medical event, like a seizure or stroke, etc.
I will always remember the "CARDIAC PACK", in the run to the 83 National Championship. Cleaning out stored boxes in the garage, I found, just last week, my 1983 NC State National Champs shirt.
Lorenzo Charles was the bus driver for the Mens Duke lacrosse team. Coach Danowski asked Lorenzo to speak to the Lax team, 2010, before the National Championship. Lorenzo, was also a part of the Duke Family.
Prayers, thoughts and vibes to the Charles Family, Friends, Wolfpack Nation, Former Teammates and Classmates, Duke Lacrosse Team, and fans, to which Lorenzo touched throughout his life.

Re: RIP Lorenzo Charles
The great majority of the time, these type of accidents are medically related or it can also be from falling asleep at the wheel. I wish healing to his family and friends.
