Mom's turn to party!!
Very Duke Blue will be 70 years old this June! She's the youngest 70 year old I know We're going to have some sort of party at Mom's and Dad's Efland place on Saturday, June 11th. We will likely start in the afternoon and party until whenever. I'll share details when I know what Mom wants to do. She suggested a Brunswick stew. I suggested seafood and potluck, but we'll see!

I suggest both!!! I will be there!!!!! Happy Halloween VDB!!!
I also suggest I show up with my grill just because. We don't need football to have an awesome tailgate.

We'll be with family on June 11 actually celebrating MY birthday! I'm a year ahead of VDB. She's just a kid!
THIS weekend, we have two birthdays here. DukeRah turns 45 on Friday and my son-in-law turns 49 on Saturday. Our kids are older than ME!

Re: Mom's turn to party!!
Yay!
We are birthday partyin' here tomorrow, celebrating my Mom's 80th, which is next week.
I hope to be in for the Brill-gate and the party afterward. B has to be at some Methodist thing earlier in the week, but I'm not sure if he'll still be at Lake Junaluska on Saturday.

Re: Mom's turn to party!!
I bought a 10 pound pork shoulder for Saturday . I'm staying with Bud and Nancy Friday night so I can get up before the sun does and fire up the grill. Very much looking forward to seeing everyone and having a great celebration!

I'm ready to roll! If this makes it to Efland and back, Brunchgates are going to be so much easier. If it makes it to some point short of Efland, one of y'all is getting a phone call.

I'm not sure that set-up is going to make it to Swansboro (or New Bern) depending on which route you take.CameronBornAndBred wrote:I'm ready to roll! The most basic 'rule of thumb' when it comes to trailering, is weight-forward. I know the grill is not that heavy, but the addition of wind drag against it will add a coeffecient that will make it seem so. This is the reason for the tailgate/ramp not having a solid metal sheet but rather, full of holes. If the weight were too heavy, you would experience a fish-tailing effect that can be a memory you would never forget. Should it happen that you begin to feel, and you see, the trailer swaying back and forth from side to side...GAS ON IT! The extra speed will pull it back in line. Hitting the brakes will only make it worse, and at a high enough speed, it could find you either in the ditch or on your roof after the flip.
I suggest that some sort of tall support be attached to the front crossing rail of the trailer and attach the grill to that. In addition, the towing vehicle will block the majority of wind against it, creating more stability for the trip. Or, the grill could be laid over on it's side and pushed up, tied to the front.

Trailering issues aside, I'm attending the ash-spreading ritual for my FIL this weekend, up in the hills.
I'll raise a glass toward Efland Saturday night in celebration of your birth, VDB. And, wish for you many more.
Y'all have a great time!

And if it doesn't, I'm pretty sure it won't be enough to go around. Plus, it will be too warm by the time you get there. That part still needs work.CameronBornAndBred wrote:There is a good chance the bottle of beer will fall off.devildeac wrote:I'm not sure that set-up is going to make it to Swansboro (or New Bern) depending on which route you take.CameronBornAndBred wrote:I'm ready to roll! That's not the fully loaded trailer. 40 pounds of charcoal and cooler full of ice are going up front.captmojo wrote:I know the grill is not that heavy, but the addition of wind drag against it will add a coeffecient that will make it seem so.
(But still..thanks for pointing out the weight forward thing. It is a fact that I know..but not everyone does.)

Re: Mom's turn to party!!
Layman's suggestion. Can you lay the grill on its side to reduce the wind (resistance) drag moment and put the bag of charcoal inside it, both to weigh it down on the trailer and to not take up extra volume/floor space? If you can, you could also move it forward on the trailer as the Capt. suggested. I might put a blanket under it to keep it from getting scratched if that's a consideration.
Oh, I see the good Capt. also offered that suggestion in the last sentence of his post.

If I had two people, I could do that...but since it's just me it's not an option. My back sucks enough as it is.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:Layman's suggestion. Re: Mom's turn to party!!
We are about to leave for the Blue Ridge hills o'Viginny, to engage in a different ash-sprinkling ceremony. FIL's request was to be scattered in the lake, hopefully to become fish food. We're gone for the day. Hence, the aforementioned glass-raising tonight. Y'all keep'em straight over there, now! ;)Very Duke Blue wrote:Captmogo, are you not coming to my celebration?
