Duke v State

Post by captmojo » January 19th, 2011, 8:27 pm

Well, I ran my mouth about a 30 point win in 21, then they come out flat.

It could still happen. Up 8, this writing.

Nolan is All-American, end of story.

BeDeviler is a tough call.

I don't know. Bedeviler might be Kyle for a change. You're right. Nolan is simply quicksilver.

Miles. 13/9. Minimal fouls. Pretty good D.

He must have gotten tired of eating milkbones.

Absolutely stellar game tonight. Quite possibly the most satisfying of the season for me. Easily the best overall performance without Kyrie. Very encouraging.

We could be a bit better stopping dribble/drive. O/W, very well done. On the road. With revenge for last year's debacle at the pork palace.

Agreed, but doesn't this have at least something to do with our overall defensive scheme last night? Tracy Smith and CJ Leslie are clearly State's two best players at this point, and we neutralized them very effectively. For the game, guards were credited with only 24 of State's 68 shot attempts, and 13 of those attempts were for Ryan Harrow, whom we managed to harangue into a 4-of-13 shooting performance. I also loved the job we did on the boards, which further limited State's offense by denying them a great deal of second-chance buckets.

This game was a *huge* relief. It wasn't 40 minutes of pretty, but Duke came out looking like Duke in the first half, instead of the lackluster team we've seen in the previous few games. We shouldn't have to make a comeback run in the last ten minutes of the game every damn time. Really loved seeing Miles get his mojo back, and that hug from Coach K left him glowing. :-BD :duke:

I counted Andre's baseline lay-in,what they rank #2, as my 1. The reason, I don't recall having seen that play so far this year. It took me by surprise.

Well, last year, State was on some sort of drug that was allowing them to hit shots that, I think, would have gone in if they had been bounced off their asses. [wanker] :D

Agreed. Also, the encouraging part. For me to believe that the shooting woes were over, I had to see it proven by three or more guys and for both halves of the same game. Off target shooting comes and goes in cycles and is also contagious. It isn't to 100%, but it is into recovery.

Yea, but K alters his defensive schemes like this. Sometimes, it's to shut down a team's 3 point shooting like against IU several years ago when Killingsworth went wild. He did something similar against KState shutting down their guards, but we had Kyrie and his 10 good toes then (ie. speed on the perimeter). As Seth, Dawkins and our frontcourt mature, we should be able to stop this better, and, if unsuccessful, our interior D will be there to send the "weak shit" back where it belongs.
