Achoo!
Ironic...I never had problems in Atlanta, with its off-the-charts pollen counts, other than just there being a lot of stuff in the air. Up here in NJ, though, whatever we've got blooming up here is KILLING me. *snorgle* *snurf* *achoo!*

Re: Achoo!
My allergies are so bad this year (and they haven't bothered me since I was in high school, decades ago) that I thought the title of this thread was Alcohol, not Achoo!

I read it the same way...but I have no allergies. Apparently I have a healthy does of dyslexia. Or beer on the brain.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:My allergies are so bad this year (and they haven't bothered me since I was in high school, decades ago) that I thought the title of this thread was Alcohol, not Achoo!

Re: Achoo!
I just realized that if you add two Ls to "achoo!" ....you get:
ALCOHOL!
And L.L. Cool J added to "achoo," can spell:
Cool! Alcohol, J!

Re: Achoo!
For the record, not that any of y'all have any reason to remember this, odds are exceptionally low that there will ever be a thread about alcohol with my name attached to it, given that God willin' and the creek don't rise, I'll be celebrating my 20th sober anniversary in June.
Anyhoodle, back to the actual topic of the thread, it's not just my imagination, it really is bad this year: Achoo! Pollen at Its Worst in Years in Many Areas

I parked over a rain puddle in Troy NC yesterday. It was three inches deep and was yellow from top thru to the bottom. It looked like it could have been a scene from the aftermath of, for example, if Sylvester had finally caught and killed Tweety.

Congratulations! I'll add my favorite cookies to Tilly's brownies to celebrate - assuming you like coconut.gadzooks wrote:For the record, not that any of y'all have any reason to remember this, odds are exceptionally low that there will ever be a thread about alcohol with my name attached to it, given that God willin' and the creek don't rise, I'll be celebrating my 20th sober anniversary in June.

The cookies are called Chocolate Bittersweets - shortbread cookie, cream cheese/coconut/walnut filling, chocolate topping. Can you tell it is a Land 'o Lakes butter recipe.

I like coconut, too (my husband doesn't, so more for me! ).
An interesting piece a friend linked to the other day, about why pollen has gotten so bad in recent years: It's the Trees

I guess that's true because if we had more roads and housing, there would probably be less trees. Great idea.

Re: Achoo!
Read the article; they're not advocating fewer trees, just pointing out that the type of trees favored by urban and suburban landscapers are pollen-riffic, and suggesting doing things differently. It's really very interesting, and I was never aware of the preference for male trees.devildeac wrote:gadzooks wrote:I like coconut, too (my husband doesn't, so more for me! ).

Weird tree rule: the Cottonwood is the state tree of Kansas. There are some parts of the state, including the city I live in, where you can't plant a Cottonwood tree.
