Re: Pens / Red Wings- Game 7
What a game. What a series. Both teams played out of their minds tonight, but Fleury was better than Osgood in the end. His last second save had me saying one thing to my neighbor: Oh my.
The NHL has struggled since the lockout, but this will hopefully bring fans back. Great playoffs ending with a fantastic Game 7. In addition, these two teams will be around for a while. Get used to Detroit-Pittsburgh. As was stated earlier in this thread, Game 7 of the NHL playoffs is so nerve racking and exciting--it is the best sporting event (taking out games in which you have a vested interest, such as Duke bball).
I'm a Pens fan (not a die hard, but grew up in a Pittsburgh household) and can remember staying up to watch them win in both '91 and '92. This was as satisfying.
In terms of best trophies, I'll say the Stanley Cup, followed very closely by the World Cup (14 lbs of solid 18-carat gold).
edit: I grew up in a Pittsburgh fan household, not actually in Pittsburgh (in Columbus).

I agree, but the World Cup is thisclose to Lord Stanley in my book (probably ahead of it on some days).rockymtn devil wrote:

But that's 18-karat gold. Carats are for stones, karats are for metals.

Oooooh, Wilson is talking about the difference between carats & karats. I think I'm in love.

Hey Wilson, name & define the 4 C's. No cheating.

*Yawn* color, cut, clarity, carats. That's a very typical question in "Battle of the Sexes."Sue71 wrote:Hey Wilson, name & define the 4 C's. No cheating.
I'm telling you, you don't want to mess with me in any trivia game. Remember, I've been on Jeopardy.

Did you win on Jeopardy?
(I was on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?', sadly, I'm not one.)

I came up $3 short (with just less than $36,000 on the board)...even the Jeopardy people were like, "Damn, man, that sucks."Bostondevil wrote:Did you win on Jeopardy?

Re: Pens / Red Wings- Game 7
You should have been in Pburgh last year for the booing and garbage throwing that the Pens fans did during and after that last game. Holy smokes. We had two bottles thrown at us from cars as my son and I exited, too. Unfortunately, hockey can bring out fierce primal behavior in "some" people.Sue71 wrote:Stay classy, Detroit. Fans booing during the Conn Smythe (sp?) and Cup ceremonies.
Ah well, I'm pretty bummed today. Anybody from Pburgh can, at least, take some enjoyment from that.

Was this in "college" Jeopardy? What was the final question? What was your favorite answer/question? Maybe this deserves its own, special thread.
We had a kid from my high school win the high school tournament and go on to the tournament of champions. When it came to final jeopardy, he guessed from the category that he wouldn't know the answer, so he bet an amount that, if he lost, he would end up with "1991," his graduation year.

What a wimp. Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals and he says he can't play. Idiot. Thousands of players would sell their souls to be in his place and a little injury keeps him on the bench. Bobby Baun he ain't.*
*For those who don't know, Baun scored the winning goal (in overtime) of Game 6 in the Stanley Cup finals back in the '60s on a leg that he had broken earlier in the game. That's right, he came back into the game and played on a broken leg. The Leafs also won Game 7 in that series to win the Cup.

He did play in the 3rd, for a series, didn't he? Not much, I know.colchar wrote:Sue71 wrote:I wonder if Crosby is really hurt.
