Spring Practice - What interest you most?

Post by The Football Fan » February 16th, 2011, 4:42 pm

Is it the progress of the QBs or running game? Scouting redshirt freshman? Possible styles of play or schemes? Position changes?

I guess I'm always looking at the write ups to see if any playmakers are emerging.

I'll tell you what interest me most.
It's figuring out whether new CTN posters will make their comments in grammatically correct fashion. :-B

For me it's what happens on the defensive line. I read an article today about how Cutcliffe is stressing that also. I will be interested to see what changes are made with Hobby gone.

This is a message board. Why are you busting my chops over complete sentences? I wrote it as I would've said it. I'm guessing you've done that at some point before too.

Com'on man... a new poster should be feel'n the love! Instead I'm getting scorn from d'ivory tours.

You must forgive Wilson. He is obsessive compulsive when it comes to spelling and grammar. He is one of our members who make CTN a bit different from the other sites. Actually, you don't have to forgive him, but if you do, do it with good spelling and grammar. :))

:ymhug: :ymhug: :ymhug:

I would like to see some progress defensively. I think some of the freshmen can make an impact, the way Kelby Brown did last year. And :YMPRAY: :YMPRAY: :YMPRAY: can we have a running game?

:text-yeahthat: What he said.

Very diplomatic, by the way. My compliments.

I am interested in two areas. First, is continued progress on the offensive line. This is an area which has shown dramatic improvement in the Coach Cut era, but we still need better run blocking. In order to make the next step and become a team capable of posting a winning record, we must run the ball much better. A specific OL concern is center as Bryan Morgan is no longer here to anchor the middle of the OL. Second, and this is very broad, improvement on defense. We need development in multiple areas on defense: line, cornerback, and linebacker. Safety was our only strong spot last season. We gave up too many points.

Following up on my previous post, I realize I am taking the offensive skill positions for granted, but based upon watching almost every game the past three years, I'm extremely confident we will be solid at QB, WR, TE and RB. We have experienced players with proven performance at those positions. RB is the where we have the least amount of proven performance but that is a function of the OL. Desmond Scott and Josh Snead have strength and speed, and can run the ball if the OL provides the blocking. Scott's +30 yard 4th quarter TD run against Virginia was one of the most exciting plays of the year last season.

One reason we gave up so many points is because we gave up the ball so much. I'll attribute some of that to youth. I read a stat the other day that 42% of our team is true or redshirt freshmen. That's pretty amazing. With experience will come better ball control, and hopefully less turnovers.

I have to side with Wilson here because correct spelling and proper grammar are extremely important in the communications process. For example, capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

Add me to list that endorses capitalization! =))

Now that I think about it...
the practice that held the most interest for me, in spring, didn't have a damn thing to do with football. :romance-kisscheek:

Looking back at it now, I think I over reacted. My nose was so stuffed up that I was just miserable. I view a message board as a fairly informal setting and conversational. That doesn’t mean I think grammar isn’t important. I have trouble with posts, on other sites, having so many errors that the message becomes confusing. I thought my message/post was clear even if not in perfect form.

Still I can understand that for some…it sticks out like a swollen pimple on an otherwise pristine face. I don’t want anyone cringing at my post for the wrong reason. So, when in Rome…

I think we've had enough banter on that mess. Let’s talk some ball.

No worries, the more you post you'll learn that we are about as informal as they come. I've seen somewhere that the Spring Game is March 26th, anyone know if that's true? I'm not sure if I'm such a big fan of this early start for the team.

I've never been to the Spring game. If the weather is nice, I'd like to go. Do you know if they sell tickets? Also, does anyone know if they have the kids activities set up for the Spring game. Other than the the short videos on the goduke website, it seems like information on players and play making is sparse.

They do have lots of activities set up for the kids. I missed last years, but went two years ago. It's a great way to spend a Spring Saturday. Also take some time to go enjoy Duke Gardens. (Another reason why I wish the game were later in April or early May.)
