Duke-Miami

Post by wilson » February 14th, 2011, 9:14 am

Really terrific team performance last night. Some of the best balance we've seen all season.
I thought this was Seth's best overall game since coming to Duke.
The BeDeviler poll will be a tough one. I think this is one of those times when a strong case can be made for a team award, because the fluidity with which all of the boys played as a unit last night was really impressive.
Very sound performance on the road. Now, on to the 'Hoos.

You're right. But, these sputtery starts are making me nervous. Sure would like to see us get a foot on somebody's neck early for a change.

Totally agreed. That's my one major complaint about last night. The same phenomenon very nearly put us in an irredeemable hole against, well, the holes, and these past two games aren't even the only recent ones where that concern has shown itself (just ask St. John's).

I believe Miami to be a bit better than you folks give credit for. They have two of the best outside shooters in the conference and the Johnson kid can, at times be a Hell of a load. This is a real scoring threat. Their main problem is a lack of focus. They are quite sloppy at times. Nowhere near as sharply precisioned in their offensive sets, and as we know, every team in this league has plenty of room for improvement on defense.

The Canes were playing at home, had a lot to prove with a win and were a measure too excited. The early scores from Battle are evidence. If Haith can get these guys more focused, they could really be a problem for many others...Duke included. They are most hurt by the lack of a solid quarterback, so those two sharpshooters can concentrate on working to get open for scores. I think the final difference Sunday, was no less than what should have been expected from a Blue Devil's standpoint.

I can't compare the St John's game to this one. They were two different styles and two different results. Duke's biggest trouble with the johnnies can be shrunk to one main feature (or lack of a feature), being constantly outrun down the floor in transition. It has proven to be a springboard for the style they have been successful with since that fateful day. They were an under rated power to be dealt with. And before I close, let's not forget the Lavin suckitude factor.

Was anyone else impressed by Thornton coolie hitting six from the charity stripes in the last couple minutes? Man, that was sweet from the freshman.

That was indeed impressive. We've discussed it a fair amount in the BeDeviler thread.
