Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.

Whichever voice announces a Duke loss. I hope to not hear that one again this season.

I would much rather listen to Vitale than have to endure the agonizing pain that is Verne Lundquist.

What's so bad about Verne? I can think of at least 20 announcers who are worse.Lavabe wrote:I would much rather listen to Vitale than have to endure the agonizing pain that is Verne Lundquist.

Re: Least Favorite Voice of College Basketball
He started bugging me during THE GAME. After Laetter pulled his Timberlake move, Elmore backed off, and said that he didn't know if Laettner did it on purpose. Verne chimed in condescendingly and quickly, "Yeah, he did. Pretty obvious."wilson wrote:What's so bad about Verne? I've never been able to like him ever since. Dude is worthless to me... except in Happy Gilmore.

Re: Least Favorite Voice of College Basketball
Do you not think Laettner did that on purpose? I do, and I love the guy. To borrow Verne's words, I think it's "pretty obvious" that he meant to step on Timberlake...he was looking straight at him when he did it!Lavabe wrote:...After Laetter pulled his Timberlake move, Elmore backed off, and said that he didn't know if Laettner did it on purpose. And anyway, that single incident shouldn't cloud the fact that Verne is one of the more incisive basketball analysts still going.

Yes, my Christian is named for Christian Laettner. The discussion came down to two names: Grant or Christian.wilson wrote:Cathy, is your Christian really named after Christian Laettner? He was a nice guy when I walked into him in the dairy section of the Kroger on Hillsborough Road in 1990.

If Laettner really wanted to hurt the guy, he could have. Intentional? As a knowing tap, yeah.
