CathyCA's son posted something on Facebook about buying a cheap belt and it falling apart quickly and I put up a reply that I thought was just so dang good that it inspired me to start this thread - advanced life philosophies. I'm sure we have them, things we've learned and put into words that others can benefit from. Just like the Captain's consumer advice, put them here!
Here are the first two, just to get us started. The second one is my first rule of golf.
You get what you pay for. And sometimes you get cheated. Two of life's lessons. Sometimes learned cheaply, sometimes not so much.
Most putts that are short don't go in! ;)

My philosophy is that in no matter how bad things seem right now, in 5 years it won't matter. Meaning that there are always better days ahead. There is one caveat to this...if you murder someone, then you're going to jail and you're screwed.

Life is too short to drink cheap/bad beer.
What did you expect, something profound?

When something happens I don't like but cannot change, I have learned to "let it go".

I too like this approach. I take it step further and remind people that there are about 8766 hours in a year, and it's not worth getting upset over something that consumes less about 1/10,000 of a year.

Our old CEO was an interesting guy with quite an accomplished career and history in the biz. Whenever he spoke I took the time to listen. Most of his speeches were laced with the f-bomb (he was from Philly and proud of it!) but every once in a while he'd drop a good gem on ya. My favorite, and something that I've always tried to hold true to: "Do what you do best, nothing more."
It seems so simple and so obvious, but I've observed that a large majority of problems in business can be attributed to people trying to do too much, or over committing.

Well, I haven't either. Not even one with alligator shoes.

Yes, you have. They are the ones that aren't belts, handbags, shoes and purses
