We finally gave in and bought a car
We turned in our 95 Nissan Altima, and bought a new 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid. We managed to take advantage of the end of the year massive deals.

Thanks Cathy.CathyCA wrote:I hope you enjoy your new car for many years!
Truth be told, I had test-driven the Civic hybrid about 4-5 years ago in Atlanta, and loved it. I kept my eye on it, the Prius (rented two of them for short trips), and test-drove the Fusion Hybrid. I've been keeping my eye on the prices and changes in the cars. Got into the Honda at devildeac's this Christmas. When both Toyota and Honda unleashed their end-of-year enhancements, we went to work. We also appreciate help from devildeac in each step of the 2010 car hunt.
The weird thing is that Lexington is very much a Toyota town (with the Georgetown plant just a few miles north of the city), but we have only two dealers here (and Richmond). NO lower price Priuses in town. On the Honda side, there are two dealers as well, but only one readily carries the Hybrid. We caught the last 2010 in their lot (they had no 2011 hybrids), and it had only 25 miles on it ... while being on the lot SINCE APRIL!!
So far, a really smooth car.
And by the way, new car leather smell is really nice.

You'll really like it when it is at or below freezing outside and it has been sitting in the EKU parking lot for several hours . Or when it is 90+ degrees and has been in the sun for 6-8 hours .Lavabe wrote:Thanks Cathy.CathyCA wrote:I hope you enjoy your new car for many years!

Note: The model we got also came with heated car seats.devildeac wrote:You'll really like it when it is at or below freezing outside and it has been sitting in the EKU parking lot for several hours . Or when it is 90+ degrees and has been in the sun for 6-8 hours .

Re: We finally gave in and bought a car
With Honda, the leather option usually comes with heated side/rear view mirrors, climate control and heated seats. With the deal you got (I hope), I would have taken the leather seats, too, and not driven to NC to save a few hundred bucks, although the sales manager I have worked with at AutoPark Honda would have given you a great deal I am sure. We have leather in our Freestyle but keep it parked outside and they are cold on the back and buttocks in the winter (even with 2 levels of heating on the seats) and hot and sticky in the summer. We got cloth on our recent Civic and Accord purchases.Lavabe wrote:Note: The model we got also came with heated car seats.devildeac wrote:You'll really like it when it is at or below freezing outside and it has been sitting in the EKU parking lot for several hours . Re: We finally gave in and bought a car
Congrats on the new car, Lavabe! I'll be most anxious to hear how you like it. I'm leaning toward getting a hybrid as my next car. It could be a while, though; my 2004 Accord only has 85K miles on it.
My car also has heated seats, and I have found that they can be helpful on long trips when my back starts to hurt.

How's the gas mileage so far? (yea, I know you've only had it 2 days but...)

I'm sad to give up on the Nissan Altima, but Nissan has done very little with hybrids. There's an Altima one now, but the gas mileage benefits are tiny versus the regular Altima. Nissan invested in the all-electric Leaf, which is supposed to be good, but you won't see many of them on the road until 2012 at the earliest. The Leaf has NO gas (and no tailpipe), but depends on a plug in charge... which our university is NOT set up for. The other thing I have to check into is what our source of electricity is (coal vs. hydro). Then there's the little issue of stopping for charges every 70 miles between here and NC if we were to take it on trips.
dd seems happy in a Honda family, so I'm sure we went with a reliable manufacturer.
