The best way to clear snow off your roof is to live where it doesn't snow.
One of the things I loved (yes, there were things I loved there) about California was living in our beautiful valley. It was too warm to snow in our valley, but we had gorgeous snow on the mountaintops surrounding us several times a year. It was pretty to look at, and yet we didn't have to mess with it.
“The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play 'Drop the Handkerchief.'”

Usually, down south, you let it melt. Takes a few hours lots of times. rarely does it last long. Be thankful you're not in Minneapolis and a Vikings fan. Dome couldn't support a little 15" snowfall, pitiful. Now they'll play in Detroit tomorrow night. Of course, you can always do what they do in the Rockies to avoid avalanches and simply take a canon and ignite it, which should jolt the snow into a release and it will just fall off the roof. Might wanna try a firecracker first, though. Or you can yoedel, that might release it, too. Lots of options to get a few inches off the roof, take a ray gun and melt it.
I'm just having some fun with this as I'm jealous we only had dusting after all the snow we had last year, about 48 inches total. GO DUKE and GTHC!!! 9F9F9F9F!!!
Merry Xmas to all!!!

If I am too lazy and too cheeky, I use the water hose. If really creative, I convince the neighbor or hire the kid up the street to do it for like $5 and some hot chocolate w/marshmallows.
But so few, so infrequent does this problem present itself here in central NC. I hear that the mountains however are gonna get a dumping soon. Bully for them ::::envy::::

Those dumpings you are envious of are one of the reasons I moved from there to the beach. One snow is pretty. Multiple snows suck. And don't believe that people in the mountains drive in it any better than you do, they could barely drive in the rain.

Can you imagine some redneck firing his shotgun/hunting rifle at the snow on the roof sometime? Probably kill a neighbor or two and do some serious damage to all the disabled vehicles on his front lawn, too.

Yup. Ozziedaughter started getting dumped upon yesterday about noon. School for today was canceled shortly after. Her school, Banner Elk Elementary, is in the background. They are hunkered down.
