Forty-seven years ago today
Do you remember where you were and what you were doing forty-seven years ago today?
(This thread should separate those over the age of 50 from the rest of us.)
I have absolutely no recollection of it at all. I had just turned two years old.

I was in my 2nd grade classroom. It was just after lunch and our teacher came in and said school was closing early. The President had been shot. Strange how you can remember things from so long ago like it just happened. AW.CathyCA wrote:Do you remember where you were and what you were doing forty-seven years ago today?

I was in the lounge in the Student Union Building. I was about to go upstairs to the Chanticleer offices to work on an assignment. I could hear a radio someone had on. After realizing what had happened, I went back to my dorm for a while and watched TV with others on the Parlor. Later I wondered back to West to the Chapel to join many others who sat quietly praying and crying.

In my pediatrician's office...I had pneumonia. Wasn't old enough to know what was going on...just knew it was bad.

I've been told I was napping in a baby carriage in the backyard when a neighbor came out and told my mother. I was one month old.

Part of me was tucked up neatly in my mom's overies.
The other part was jiggling around somewhere in my dad I suppose.

1963. I was 9 years old. That was... 4th grade. I was in Mrs. Conroy's class. I remember the look on the face of the boy who came into the room and said "the President has been shot", but I can't remember his name (Randy something - he had longish blond hair). It was the end of the school day and I remember riding my bike home shortly thereafter - it was about a 2 mile ride. I remember "sounding my siren" most of the way home. Of course, my siren was self generated.

Oh, yes. Va. Beach, Va. Donna and Dana were babies. President Kennedy was assassinated. It was unreal. I think most of the USA was in shock that day and for many more days. It was like a nightmare. I woke up many times that night, thinking it was a bad dream. I pray our country never goes through something like this again.
God bless America

I was in the 3rd grade. The thing that was most frightening when we heard the announcement over the loud speaker was that the teacher, Mrs. Swain, started crying. And Walter Cronkite cried - on TV!
Re: Forty-seven years ago today
My older sister says she remembers that day - she was nearly five and remembers Mom crying.
I was almost 2 months old.

Re: Forty-seven years ago today
In our graduate student housing at the University of Illinois, I had just put my baby daughter down for her nap and I was sitting on the floor with my back against the sofa, having my lunch and watching my soap opera. First, came the news flash that Kennedy had been shot. Then things just kept getting worse. I remember thinking that tragedy doesn't just strike. It frequently unfolds.
