Re: BC @ Duke
Austin Kelly mentioned on FB today that he raced over after practice to the doctor's office without taking a shower, on the advice of Hap, who suggested he might get seen faster if he hustled. He also complained about being smelly after practice, and no one would sit by him! Which tells me he didn't sit idly by while his teammates practiced. (and Patrick Kurunwune gave him grief about practicing today, for the 4th time this year.)

Re: BC @ Duke
Thanks for that LG...love the thought of Kelly using his offensive prowess (or offensive odor) to get the head of the line.

Re: BC @ Duke
With Vernon, Kelly, Snead and King questionable, BC will surely key on Varner and Scott. Cooper Helfet and Brandon Braxton will need to step up and play big. Sean Renfree knows how to spread the ball around and we will still have playmakers on the field so I remain convinced we can win if we value the football and don't completely breakdown on defense. We've won the last two weeks with a bend but don't break approach. Another big game from Connette would be nice. Generally, I'm not a fan of the two QB approach, but I have to admit, it has worked for Duke the past two weeks. Coach Cutcliffe choosing to play both Renfree and Connette is a good case of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy.

Re: BC @ Duke
Agreed. Maybe it's a unique combination of two complimentary QB's..but Cutcliffe has found a way to make it work as an asset to the offense.Bob Green wrote: Generally, I'm not a fan of the two QB approach, but I have to admit, it has worked for Duke the past two weeks. And maybe BC will be as stunned when Connette runs as uva seemed to be!Bob Green wrote:With Vernon, Kelly, Snead and King questionable, BC will surely key on Varner and Scott. I also liked Connette's passing stats for the uva game: 1/1 for 40 yds.lawgrad91 wrote:And maybe BC will be as stunned when Connette runs as uva seemed to be!Bob Green wrote:With Vernon, Kelly, Snead and King questionable, BC will surely key on Varner and Scott. Better than vs. VT..0/1 resulting in an INT. that setup a VT touchdown.devildeac wrote:I also liked Connette's passing stats for the uva game: 1/1 for 40 yds.lawgrad91 wrote:And maybe BC will be as stunned when Connette runs as uva seemed to be!Bob Green wrote:With Vernon, Kelly, Snead and King questionable, BC will surely key on Varner and Scott. Here's a bit of good news for our banged up team...their team is banged up too.

If (Richman and White) aren’t available, we’ll have six guys, with (John) Wetzel being the free card,” coach Frank Spaziani said. “It becomes a patchwork outfit, more than it is already. It gets very dicey - and taking somebody’s redshirt is not out of the question."

Re: BC @ Duke
Here's a cool factoid.
http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/1 ... d-you-knowDuke is 30-of-32 (.938) in the red zone this season with 19 touchdowns and 11 field goals. Duke’s red-zone conversion percentage of .938 leads the ACC and ranks third nationally. Duke is the only team in the ACC with a conversion percentage of over 90 percent and are a perfect 10-of-10 in the red zone in the past three games.

Re: BC @ Duke
We had a nice "Chat" today, courtesy of CTN, but the ending was definitely frustrating. We were in position to win the game but didn't pull it out. I was one excited fan with 50 seconds to go in the game when my wife counseled me to not "count my chickens." I told her I had seven chickens already counted but it wasn't to be.
Hopefully the Brunchgate was enjoyable!

And for our execution and play calling in the red zone:devildeac wrote:My game thoughts:Bob Green wrote:We had a nice "Chat" today, courtesy of CTN, but the ending was definitely frustrating. Re: BC @ Duke
And for the *&^%ing refs for their two truly atrocious and inherently dishonest pass interference calls against us AND the blatantly ignored no call on Vernon on our last drive:devildeac wrote:And for our execution and play calling in the red zone:devildeac wrote:My game thoughts:Bob Green wrote:We had a nice "Chat" today, courtesy of CTN, but the ending was definitely frustrating. Re: BC @ Duke
4 yards rushing. Four. Vier. Quattro.
0.2 yds/carry. Yes, that decimal point is in the correct place. And it's 2010, not 2090 or 2008. That is truly miserable. But, hey, look on the bright side. We had -8 for the 1st half so we were +12 for the 2nd half.

Re: BC @ Duke
The last 4 downs were a microcosm of the whole game...missed opportunities and questionable coaching calls. The refs really sucked too, but even with their crappy play calling we had chances to move the ball and win that we let slip away. Hopefully it will be another game to learn from as the team continues to get better. I'm looking forward to seeing how we look attitude wise against GT..I think we will continue to have the positive spirit and confidence that we have showed of late.

Re: BC @ Duke
There's plenty to rehash in terms of what could have been done differently in the game. One point I'm pleased with is that it appeared that we had no injuries yesterday.
It was great that Conner and Austin were back on the field after being on the injury report.

That's one of my worries, too.
