ATTN Lavabe re: ATL
I am at SAMLA this weekend because I have to moderate a panel. In Midtown. I am not renting a car. I am looking for restaurant recs, but more specifically:
Dude, Lavabe, what was the name of that place with the good-ass beer selection two blocks or so from the Decatur MARTA?

Where in Midtown? Are you up for southern cuisine... chicken and waffles, shrimp 'n' grits, some of the best sweet potato cheesecake?throatybeard wrote:I am at SAMLA this weekend because I have to moderate a panel. Something healthier..I heard there's good Thai around there? The conference is at the Loews, which is full, so I'll stay somewhere cheaper nearby.Lavabe wrote:Where in Midtown? I believe NAN THAI is owned by the same folks who did Tamarind Seed. I think it's supposed to be better than Tamarind Seed.

If you see a friend or two near Emory, Thai Chili makes sense.Lavabe wrote:I believe NAN THAI is owned by the same folks who did Tamarind Seed. I think it's supposed to be better than Tamarind Seed.

Wonder if that's the place I used to go to when I went to the CDC with my last job. That place was incredible. Best Thai food ever. Throaty, do you know of any place in StL with good Thai food?Lavabe wrote:I believe NAN THAI is owned by the same folks who did Tamarind Seed. I think it's supposed to be better than Tamarind Seed.

If it was in a shopping plaza within 2 miles of CDC/Emory, it was either Thai Chili or Top Spice.ArkieDukie wrote:Wonder if that's the place I used to go to when I went to the CDC with my last job. If it was downtown/midtown, you were probably at Tamarind.

Can't remember for sure, but it seems like it was the former. Not a big place, and not fancy. Just really good (and spicy!) curry. Several varieties, in fact.Lavabe wrote:If it was in a shopping plaza within 2 miles of CDC/Emory, it was either Thai Chili or Top Spice.ArkieDukie wrote:Wonder if that's the place I used to go to when I went to the CDC with my last job. They do a lot of catering at Emory. There's also some kosher place and a vegetarian/organic pizza place in the same plaza. Across the street is a Nicaraguan restaurant and an Hawaiian restaurant.

Re: ATTN Lavabe re: ATL
Most of the Thai in the City I've had was so-so (Sen, Sweet Basil, couple places on S Grand, couple on Delmar).
Best Thai near Saint Louis I've had is Rearn Thai, which is about a block north of the Clayton Metro. It's sort of a hole in the wall. Blue Elephant in Clayton is good too but not as, and is much more expensive.
