Gadgets Sold on TV

Post by EarlJam » November 2nd, 2010, 11:53 am

You all know what I'm talking about. The commercials that show a simple task being FUBARed in black and white, then the picture turns to color and there's the simple new gadget that can bring happiness back to life for only $19.99.............but don't order now! You also get.......

My question: What has been the best one of these products you have ever purchased? What has been the worst?

I'm still pondering. Though I've yet to purchase it, I gotta think that pivoting windshield cleaner would be rather nifty.

My criterion is simple: does it perform as advertised and does it get used regularly?

Tie for Best:
1. Worx GT edger/trimmer is pretty good for a battery operated edger. We have a small yard, and my wife bought it for her to edge/trim with because the gas powered one I prefer is too heavy for her and a bit of a pain. It's lightweight and good for light jobs. She later bought their battery powered blower, and uses it often, instead of a broom, on our front porch and back patio/deck. It's not very powerful for big leaf blowing jobs. Anyway, it's a testimony to the company that we have bought another product because we liked the first one so well.

A. Fein Multimaster - a great tool for working around the house. It is becoming my favorite power tool in my arsenal. This is a heavy duty, professional grade power tool, so it's not like a pocket fisherman or a juicer or even like the Worx GT in terms of being an "as seen on TV" product. You can buy these tools at fine woodworking shops as well as on TV.

Worst: The Pump-n-seal is legendary in our house. Whenever I want to taunt my wife about her TV hypnosis purchasing, the Pump-N-Seal is there for me. Tried to use it a few times. Spend the money and get an electric Food Saver vacuum sealing system instead.

I see they are still in business, though, so others have obviously had different experiences with theirs (we got ours 20 years ago and got rid of it 19 years, 10 months ago - maybe the system has improved).

Not a fan of the Toe-Sucker's delight at alllllllllllllll. I mean, I even dig toes at times. Good, healthy ones. But these things serve to put an exclaimation mark on the toes, while ignoring the sensusual curves of the foot. Toes alone are not fun - unless you have a very unhealthy fetish for such.

You can buy the gadgets at Walmart and look on Craigslist.

Considering the colder weather predicted for this coming Saturday's football game and early tailgate times, I bought a Snuggie. It works very well in the house. The true test will be Saturday!

Is it Duke blue? I'm thinking about one for my office. It's in the mid-60's in here and I can't feel my feet.

I've got a Duke Snuggie! It is so completely tacky, but I'm bringing it on Saturday!

Yes, it's a solid royal blue available at Bed Bath & Beyond for $14.99 before any coupons are applied. There is a considerable inventory in that color at the new location on Hanes Mall Blvd.

Bed Bath & Beyond has moved to the shopping center where Target is located. They're in the old Linens n Things location.

I admit that this blanket with sleeves gives new meaning to "big blue," but it does offer warmth and can be folded and used mostly over the lap. It can be worn more than one way, just like the gowns at Duke Medical Center.

My little dog Molly gives it 5 stars for comfort and warmth.

Does it cover more than a medical gown does? :-ss

Yes, it does. It's inexpensive enough to buy one and try it out at home.

Hopefully I can get out there before Saturday and get a Duke blue snuggie :duke: if not, I will still look like the Michelin man in my Duke Starter jacket.
