I had never been to Garland before today. It's in Sampson County at the intersection of 411 and 701.

Since it's a lovely fall day, I have chili cooking away in the crock pot. Ymmm ... chili! I didn't have one of my usual pantry staples, Williams Chili Seasoning, so I googled a recipe for chili powder and made do with stuff I already have in the pantry: cayenne pepper, paprika, cumin, oregano, and garlic powder. I also added a dash of sage; a tip I picked up from one of my aunts. It adds an interesting flavor. Will have to sample after it cooks a bit longer to see if I need to add more of anything.

Yummy! I love sage.

We just got back from the haunted hayride in Walkertown. We were nattily attired in matching Duke sweatshirts (B's blue with white trim, mine black with blue trim) and several of the ghouls along the way informed us that they liked our sweatshirts. Now those are some smart ghouls!

Now for a celebratory glass of red wine. Abandon ship!

I won $20 on a quick pick - matched the powerball number plus one white ball, and the power play multiplier was 5! That pays for next week's plays! Better than nothing.

That's the beauty of living in a secure building. No trick-or-treaters. I had to deal with too many rude kids when I lived in my house, so I don't really miss trick-or-treaters.
