I'm watching "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" on Netflix. I really like this show - never could figure out why it wasn't a bigger hit. Discovered another reason to like it tonight: one of the characters had a Duke banner on her bulletin board.

I loved that show and was disappointed when it was canceled. IIRC, it was canceled due to the high per episode cost rather than particularly poor ratings.

That sounds about right - Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford, Timothy Busfield, Steven Weber, and Amanda Peet couldn't have had low salaries. Not sure about Sarah Paulson.

There was a hilarious bit with Bradley Whitford's character where he was ranting about not having product placement in the show. He was eating a Snickers bar at the time. Such a clever show. Unfortunately those tend to be the ones that don't last.

Major Freudian slip in bulletin insert this morning. The Methodists are having a coffee project to buy fair trade coffee, chocolate, etc. We are invited to buy a case of coffee "for your panty." Or a case of decaf for the same location. Insert blushing smilie here.

I think that a case of fair trade coffee might be good for your panty. It would certainly get you and your panty moving in the morning, wouldn't it?

Nothing like a case of coffee to get one's panty up and at 'em. (I'm not sure the decaf would have the same effect.)

I think the networks also had a major bidding war for this show when it was first conceived and the high cost paid for it was also factored into the per episode cost which, when added to the salaries, made the cost even higher.

Personally, I am pissed that A) they dumped J.J. (A.J. Cook) from Criminal Minds and seem to be squeezing Prentice (Paget Brewster) out a bit as she has been forced to accept a reduced role while all of this seems geared toward saving money on the original and putting it into the spinoff; B) that they got rid of the original Law & order in favour of the cheaper Law & Order: Los Angeles spinoff and have yet to cancel the abysmal Law & Order: Criminal Intent - if they had wanted to save money they should've canceled that one; and C) that Raising the Bar was canceled as I was really enjoying that show.

And yet, they continue to feed people an unending diet of crappy reality shows simply because they are cheaper to produce. If only people would refuse to be sucked in and stop watching them, maybe we could get some decent shows back on TV. I won't hold my breath though.

Cook) from Criminal Minds and seem to be squeezing Prentice (Paget Brewster) out a bit as she has been forced to accept a reduced role while all of this seems geared toward saving money on the original and putting it into the spinoff; B) that they got rid of the original Law & order in favour of the cheaper Law & Order: Los Angeles spinoff and have yet to cancel the abysmal Law & Order: Criminal Intent - if they had wanted to save money they should've canceled that one; and C) that Raising the Bar was canceled as I was really enjoying that show.

And yet, they continue to feed people an unending diet of crappy reality shows simply because they are cheaper to produce. If only people would refuse to be sucked in and stop watching them, maybe we could get some decent shows back on TV. I won't hold my breath though.

Colchar, I think we must have similar taste in television shows. The firing of A.J. Cook was disgraceful, as is the diminshed role of Paget Brewster. Especially when this is juxtaposed with the ridiculously high salary that Charlie Sheen is being paid. And I refuse to watch any of the reality TV shows.

I admit to interests only in 'American Pickers', Pawn Stars' and these paranormal things on A&E Sunday nights.
The 'Swamp People' show is fascinating.
What I don't care about are the contest style reality things.

Pickers is great fun. Pawn Stars is too. I enjoy both because they introduce real Americana history in them. I've never watched Swamp Road Ice Truckers. I hope they slide off the frozen pond into a gaping gator mouth.

I like most stuff on Food Network: Iron Chef, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Unwrapped... those are reality shows.
American Idol, Deadliest Catch (especially OPIE season), the Bear Grylls type shows, etc...
Will sometimes look at Dancing With the Stars.

My wife is a fan of SAY YES TO THE DRESS and HOUSEHUNTERS.

Pickers? I've done this. It can earn a LOT of money. Too irregular, and too much travel, and being away from home, and the dealing with all that goes with being an independant contractor. I had to get out of it and get a real job that let others deal with all the legal issues and pressures.
I got lots of nice antiques, collectables and education from it, however.

I'm not so concerned about Sheen's salary as his show has consistently been one of the highest ranked comedies on television. What bugs me is that the network got rid of A.J. and is marginalizing Paget simply as a cost cutting measure. They are trying to cut costs on the original while putting out a spin-off that I don't think is going to be anywhere near as good. Despite the high salary that Whittaker will command for that show, the rest of the actors won't make much so they will be saving money. But that spin-off won't last long so they are kind of shooting themselves in the foot and are screwing up the entire franchise in the process. Criminal Minds is a great show but I am convinced they are going to screw it up entirely. I'm also hoping they don't bring back any 'super criminals who cannot be stopped' storylines (like the one involving Gideon and the other one about the guy who killed Hotch's ex-wife) as I find them to be ridiculously stupid. Personally, I think those storylines detract from an otherwise well written show.

They canned the more expensive original Law & Order in favour of the L.A. based one that is nowhere near as good (and that I don't think will last more than a season or two). To me, this was done as a cost cutting measure but, in doing so, they have messed up the franchise. I can see Criminal Minds heading down the exact same path.
