Will try braeburn next.
I'm going to throw mine away or give them to someone at the office. I've learned that the gala's are popular with denture wearers because they are mushy. Bleah.

Yuck. Sorry about your Gala. They're good if crunchy, but not so much if mushy.

Just finished a crisp, cold, delightful Jazz from New Zealand. The Harris Tooter has a nice selection at the moment.

That's where my yucky galas came from. If I liked them, they'd be very good..but I don't. HT does have a great selection of fresh produce.

The Jazz and Pink Lady apples I've gotten at the grocery have 99% of the time been crisp and juicy. Some other varieties, not so much.

I had a Cameo this morning. Kind of small, but firm and tasty. (That sounds like it belongs on the boards one of my coworkers frequents!)

Bruce bought apples the other day, and when you send little boys to the store, they pick up whatever's shiny. I think he bought one of every type they had.

HA! I just got back from Harris Teeter and they had a bunch of apples on sale, so I bought cameos, crissps, and Braeburns (imported from NZ..really?). Anyways..I just finished my cameo before I saw your post. I liked it a lot, and the ones I bought are really big. Really juicy, firm (like you said) and loads of flavor. On the sweet side.

I threw my braeburn that I bought yesterday into the woods about 30 minutes ago. Like you said, mushy...I hate mushy apples. One bite was all I needed to try. :ymtongue:

Ugh. wonder how it would work for cooking. How do mealy apples do for fun things like apple pie or applesauce?

The Jazz apples I got earlier in the week have been crisp and juicy. The flavor is both sweet and tart.

For those getting mealy apples, try some of the Jazz or Pink Ladies from New Zealand..... excellent this time of year!

I love apples.

Apples are a delicious snack.

But man, as a kid, I sure HATED getting one on Halloween.

Royal Gala this morning, from B's stash of every kind in the store. It was ok, not great.

Like you, EJ, I believed Halloween was for candy, not apples or pencils or weird stuff like that.

I still think that. I buy good candy and make up little baggies of two to three mini-treats. The big kids with pillowcases only get one little treat, though.

One year I gave out canned Cokes for Halloween. The Trick-or-Treaters loved me!

I bet! I would have liked Cokes. If we didn't have nearly 100 kids, I would consider that.

I'm going to hide from the Trick or Treaters this year. It's my birthday. I don't need to put up with that stuff on MY day. :occasion-happyhalloween:

Honeycrisps sure are crisp yet juicy. But the few I've had have lacked real flavor. Maybe a farmstand honeycrsip would be better than a storebought one.
Really? Every one I've had was very sweet with just a touch of a tart afterbite, perfect to me. They are kind of out of season now, though, I think, which might explain it. Another few weeks and they'll be peak.
