Hopefully I can find a recipe or something for them, because they sure aren't good for snacking on. :ymtongue:
I am not a big fan of Galas.
You really should try a honey/candy crisp. The texture is the opposite of mush (as the name implies), and the sugar content is among the highest of the snacking apples.

Just tried a GingerGold the other day. These were nice, but a few were too much like Golden Delicious, and not as crisp and sweet as they should have been.

Gala, Pink Lady, and Jazz. I eat an apple just about every day.

Red Delicious for me. Nice and sweet. Can't handle the Granny Smiths - way too tart for my taste.

When I first saw this thread today, I thought, haven't we already done a poll like this one?

And it turns out, we did. I typed out my answers, but I don't think I ever responded to the poll.

I meant to also say that apples are really good when they're added in to chicken salad. But they must be crisp apples.

Waldorf salad is awesome..and you can add chicken, but it's not needed. Like you say...gotta be crisp apples.

Definitely my favs .... though I would add fresh Honey Crisp. Pink Lady and Jazz are superb.... crisp, sweet with a mildly tart edge and juicy. :happy-bouncyblue:

I had forgotten how much I liked Jazz until you mentioned them. Harris Teeter had some nice Pink Ladies for sale (that sounds illegal, doesn't it?) last week and I stocked up but have eaten my way through them. I haven't tried Honey Crisp. Where do you find them? :happy-bouncyblue:

You have to wait until the right season. They usually make their way into the stores mid-September through mid-October. Having said that, the Kiwis are now starting to grow them to serve the US market during the off-season.

Cook 'em up with a little cinnamon and make some apple sauce.

There used to be many thousands more varieties of apples than there are today. Most were named after families who mixed and matched on their farms.

That's what I'm hoping for! We may not make the first Brunchgate, though :( B is only off one Saturday a month (and I firmly suggested he take the 18th off in September for that friendly tilt with those little guys from Tuscaloosa). We will definitely make the game, and hopefully some of Brunchgate, or I'll try to hitch a ride in early and ride back home with him.

The capt might be willing to give you a ride in (on :)) =)) ) his 18 wheeler :| . Now THAT would be an entrance to a Brunchgate, even better than the Omegas driving up with their large, roasted porcine creature on a ginormous grilled being towed by an even more ginormous SUV. :D
