Redskins Fans?

Post by Miles » August 13th, 2010, 11:38 pm

Okay, so I know bjornolf has got my back, but I want to know if there are any other Washington fans out there?

bjornolf, did you see the game tonight? I had a delayed start thanks to some problems at work, which then led to a late dinner but I just finished watching the game and I gotta say, 'Damn! I'm impressed.' How much fun was that game man? I'm glad the Eagles organization passed up on McNabb and I'm glad we've got Satanahan, I mean Shananan and Haslett. Lots of fun things happening after the first drive.

Very happy with both defensive lines, very happy with the competition in the backfield and in the receiver core. Want to see what the Giants have to offer, and curious to see if the Cowboys can become a real team, but I'm excited so far.

Hail to the Redskins
Hail Victory
Braves on the warpath
Fight for old D.C.!

I haven't seen the whole thing, I TiVo'd it. The in-laws are in town so I couldn't get the good TV, and the wife was trying to go to sleep and the constant whistles always wake her up, so I'll be watching today. I was VERY encouraged by the final score though. I don't think we scored over 20 all season last year. And sustained drives, something that Shanahan is known for, helps the defense rest so they don't just fail in the fourth quarter. Even if you don't score, if you can get two or three first downs and punt the ball inside the other team's 30, you have a MUCH better chance than if you go three and out, punt to the 50, and spend the whole game on defense in your own end of the field. That right there is a HUGE improvement over last year.

Satanahan?

Surely NO ONE is saying SATANAHAN, right?

Please treat Donovan nicely. He deserves it after being treated so terribly by our fans in Philly.

It's an inside joke with a friend and Broncos fan that lurks here and DBR. Goes back to the days when Shanahan and John Elway conspired against Dan Reeves. I used to tell my buddy that his Super Bowl wins were tainted because his coach, Shanahan, was the devil. Of course Chris, my buddy, was the first person to tell me that Washington hired Shanahan.

I loved him in Philly and I love him in Washington. Aside from just wanting my team to win another Super Bowl, I'd really like to see McNabb win one.

Just not a Redskins fan, unless they play the 'boys ;) :D . Grew up watching the Iggles and was subjected to almost nothing but 'skins games on the tube on Sunday afternoons/evenings for almost 9 years while living in Derm and W-S as they were the "local" team.

Ahhh I gotcha. As long as you're not a Cowboys fan, we're cool. ;)

I think I have hated the 'boys for about 50 years. Seriously. Dates back to seeing the Iggles play them at Franklin Field in about 1960 and seeing them run up the score on the home team.

I follow the Redskins but my heart is in New Orleans. Not a bandwagon-jumper; I've been an 'Aint since the early 1980's.

I would have switched allegiances to the team in Charlotte from the Saints when the Cats came to town if they'd called themselves the Charlotte Panthers, but I just can't pull for anything called "Carolina."

I was really excited about the Panthers coming to Charlotte and I'm a huge fan but I'll always love the Redskins too. They were the first professional sports team I knew, and I spent those early years in D.C. and Alexandria. If they ever meet each other in the playoffs, I'd be happy either way. If they meet in the regular season, I'll pull for which ever team has the better shot at the playoffs.

The Redskins are my favorite team, as I was living here when I first discovered football as a four year old. However, the Saints are my second favorite team. My mother's family is from the big easy, and I was raised to love everything New Orleans. I also pull for most of the teams from the areas we were stationed when I was an Air Force brat, though the Redskins are the team I live and die by... I pull for the Titans since they used to be the Oilers, I pull for the Texans cause they're in Houston now (Dallas is a little closer to San Antonio, but I got my ass whipped every day there for being a 'Skins fan, so I grew to hate them with a passion pretty quickly there), I pull for the Bears cause I was born there, I pull for the Panthers from my years at Duke, and I pull for the Vikings and Seahawks because of other places we were stationed. I like the Rams too, cause they were the LA Rams when I was in high school and growing up spending so much time with my grandparents near LA. The Raiders were there then too, so I'll pull for them if I'm really bored and they're on and not playing a team I like more. I can pretty much pick the team I pull for in any game, cause I love football, and it makes the games more interesting.

My REAL two favorite teams, though, are the Redskins...and anybody who's playing the Cowboys. :D

As a kid, you became programmed for being a Redskin fan. Local TV in Greensboro had all their home games, with early start times and Sonny Jurgensen at QB.
Later on, when they would broadcast a second game those Sunday afternoons, they attempted to make an LA Rams fan out of you, with the connection to Roman Gabriel. He's a nice enough guy. I was given a lamp, as a 50th birthday gift, that was made from an actual playing helmet and autographed by Gabriel. The First Mate has a cousin that hangs out with him in Myrtle Beach.

Sonny Jurgensen and Roman Gabriel (et moi) are graduates of New Hanover High School in Wilmington. The lobby of Brogden Hall, our gym, was a shrine to them.
