MAROONED!

Post by captmojo » August 14th, 2010, 4:46 pm

I left Myrtle Beach this morning at 6:30, heading for North Charleston with 4 Honda Civics for the dealer there. About 20 miles from my destination,BOOM!. Oh boy! At first I thought it was a tire. I wish it had been that simple. I'd be home now if that were the case. Instead, I blew the cast aluminum air intake off the turbocharger. The fucker broke off all the way around it's circumference. I limped into the city at a max speed of 45mph. #:-s But, being the team player that I am, I did make the delivery.

Our shop in Walkertown is off for the weekend. The shop manager says he has the part in stock. That's good, because the only two parts dealers on line, that claim to have it, are both in Canada. :twitch:

Shop boss says we'll see if there is another driver that will have a load that's coming this way...MONDAY. :o)

Meanwhile, I'm stuck at the Sleep Inn in Summerville SC for the duration. Well, the room's clean and cold. The TV is in good working order and there's a Cracker Barrel next door.

:twitch:

Oh no! That's awful! ~X(

I hope you get some rest while you're there.

re: Cracker Barrel: We flew with our then 5-year-old son to Sanibel for a vacation. We had a lovely time swimming in the gulf and in the pool, collecting shells, building sand castles, playing video games, going to nice restaurants and enjoying the beauty of Sanibel. When we returned to Raleigh, we asked Sam what his favorite part of the trip was.

"Eating at the Cracker Barrel."

We had stopped at the Cracker Barrel in Fort Myers before arriving in Sanibel because we were too early to check in to the hotel. We knew that Sam would eat the food there. Little did we know that it would be his favorite part of the trip.

I hope you enjoy your experience at the Cracker Barrel as much as Sam enjoyed his.

I'm sorry, Capt! Hope your vehicle part comes in soon. At least you are close to Cracker Barrel, a source of much comfort food.

Is there a place nearby where you can get  ?

Sorry to hear that your marooned. Rest sometimes comes in unexpected ways. I try to look at such events as a gift of time.

Sorry you blew your turbo-charger (all sorts of rude jokes come to mind...) but at least you didn't have an accident. Been to Summerville many times in a past life, calling on Santee Cooper Electric plants and HQ there, but I always stayed in Charleston. Lots of great food in and around Charleston if you have wheels to get there. You should have hung onto one of those Civics for a couple of days ;)

Yes. The 'Firewater Grille' is next door, easy walking distance.
I like firewater.
I like grilles.
Overpriced food and beer are a great find. 8-| :ymsigh:

I've got the wheels. Boy howdy! 18 of 'em. Trouble is they won't spin fast enough to get me over 45mph. :twitch:

I'll wait. They're willing to pay me to watch TV and stare at the walls...so I'll do it. It's just boring as Hell. B-)

45 mph would get you there and back. It's parking those 18 wheels on (or near) King Street that would be the problem!
